It wasn’t long ago when Kit Harington’s Jon Snow returned from the dead to go on one of the most emotional journeys in entire Westeros. However, Jon Snow won’t be making another miraculous return to our television screens anytime soon as a proposed spin-off/sequel to Game of Thrones, focusing on the character has been scrapped.

In a new interview, Kit Harington opened up about the planned spin-off series focusing on Jon Snow. However, Harington had bad news for those waiting for the spin-off and confirmed it had been scrapped. Fans took to social media to appreciate the decision to cancel the series as many felt it was extremely unnecessary.

Kit Harington Reveals Jon Snow’s Game of Thrones Spin-off Has Been Scrapped

In June 2022, it was reported that HBO was developing a Game of Thrones spin-off series focusing on Jon Snow, with original author George R. R. Martin and Kit Harington attached to the project. However, after almost two years of no other updates, Harington has now confirmed that the spin-off series is dead.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Harington addressed the topic of the Jon Snow spin-off, which was tentatively titled Snow. Harington stated that he did not want to publically discuss the spin-off when it was in development to avoid any leaks. However, the development of the spin-off series had come to a halt.

“Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”

Harington made the above statement, confirming that the Jon Snow spin-off series was the latest shocking casualty in the world of Westeros. With the spin-off series no longer in active development at HBO, it seems Harington is unlikely to suit up as the noble Night’s Watch member anytime soon.

Game of Thrones Fans Feel the Jon Snow Spin-Off Was Unnecessary

After Kit Harington updated fans regarding the plans for the spin-off and announced that it had been scrapped, fans took to social media to share their reactions. Most fans opined that a spin-off series focusing on Jon Snow was a bad idea to begin with and were glad it was canceled while still in development.

As the tweets suggest, most fans were relieved that the spin-off series was canceled as they were uninterested in a spin-off series focusing on Jon Snow. Some fans were still bitter about the critically panned ending of the final season of Game of Thrones and did not wish to see any spin-off set directly after its events.

A spin-off focusing on Jon Snow would certainly have been a difficult sell, particularly given the character’s ending. The original series ends with Jon exiled with the Wildlings as the King Beyond the Wall, meaning the spin-off would mostly take place away from the political intrigue of other Westeros regions.

At the same time, Jon’s personal arc also concluded with the original series, making it difficult to tell an interesting story using the character while also having a larger stake. Therefore, Harington’s comments about the series being scrapped because of the lack of an interesting story make sense.
