Kathryn Newton is inevitably one of the best actresses of this generation. Yet, her recent onscreen performances aren’t quite catching fire at box offices the same way they did before. Just like how her Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) managed to gross almost thrice its budget, her recent Ant-Man 3 failed to land the mark and ended with a disappointing box office run.
As it seems, that losing box-office streak of hers isn’t dying down easily. This comes after her most recent movie Lisa Frankenstein suffered a devastating blow at the worldwide box office to end its run with a gross even less than its budget. Despite this, her fans still have high hopes for this film, even predicting that it would go on to become a cult classic following its release on streaming.
Kathryn Newton’s Lisa Frankenstein continues her box office losing streak
Even though Kathryn Newton has landed a place in the multi-billionaire franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her recent movies are only continuing her losing streak at the worldwide box office.
According to the most recent reports by @HollywoodHandle on X, her horror comedy from this year, Lisa Frankenstein, has ended its theatrical run domestically with an incredibly devastating defeat at only $9,766,150.

Adding to this domestic gross is the $153,429 that the film grossed from international box offices, ending with a total of $9,919,579. What’s worse, is that it couldn’t even bring in the film’s total budget, which stands at only $13 million (as per Box Office Mojo).
This stands even though the film included an ensemble cast of some of the biggest heartthrobs from Gen Z. Besides Newton, this included Liza Soberano, Cole Sprouse, Jenna Davis, and Henry Eikenberry, among the likes of other fan favorites like Carla Gugino.
As catastrophic as this box office run sounds, it isn’t the newest of things for Newton. Her last film, which was notably Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suffered a similar defeat.
Made on a budget of around $193 million (“concerning pre-production and filming” as per ScreenRant), the third installment in Scott Lang’s superhero saga could bring in only $476 million (per Box Office Mojo), which is a lot less when considering Marvel’s box office records.
Yet, despite such a defeat, Newton’s fans are highly predicting and anticipating this newest horror comedy of hers to transform into a cult classic in the following years as soon as it gets released on streaming.
Kathryn Newton’s fans feel Lisa Frankenstein will turn into a cult classic
Even though worldwide box offices failed it and led to it ending its run on a heartbreakingly low note, Newton’s fans still have incredibly high hopes for Lisa Frankenstein‘s future. For instance, they are predicting the film to become a cult classic over the years.
Commenting on the X post by The Hollywood Handle, here’s how they are reacting to the film’s terribly low box office earnings and anticipating its future:

It looks fun. It’s gonna do well on Netflix or whatever it lands on.

Wasn't going to be a "successful" movie, it's too creative and genuinely entertaining to appeal to the masses LOL. Gonna be a massive cult classic, I absolutely love it

I went to see it and it will explode on streaming. People are about to be talking about this film; it’s fun, camp, with just the right type of gore!

Future cult classic

It’s gonna be Jennifer’s body 2.0. Hated/disliked upon release but becomes a cult classic years later.
— bug 🥀 (@bisexualkalel) March 8, 2024
It honestly wasn’t that bad! But like folks are saying… 100% cult classic in the making

Now that the film has gone down to streaming (available to rent or buy) on Prime Video, it seems this very prediction of fans just might end up coming true. But for now, nothing can be said for sure and only time can land the final verdict.
