Genshin Impact is a vast game that offers some of the most intricately crafted stories an open-world game can offer. From the plains of Mondstadt to the peaks of Liyue, there has been a lot of thought put into the quest that the Traveler as a protagonist is being put through. There have been various Archon quests, all leading to some or the other solution that ends with some or the other lead for the Traveler.

Although it may not always be about their sibling, it helps. From the land of Freedom, the Traveler was sent to the land of Contracts. This journey led them to Inazuma, the land of Eternity and just before Version 4.0, they finished their journey in the land of Wisdom. Sumeru may have been the place where the Traveler made the most progress, however, a lot was lost and much was gained.

Genshin Impact Saw an Uncertain Future for the Akademiya

The Archon quest revolving around the land of Wisdom and the Dendro Archon Nahida had been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Now that the game is well into Version 4.1, Fontaine is here. Sumeru has long been left behind, with its memories not just of the Aranara but also of the people that the Traveler interacted with. One important factor was the position of the Grand Sage of Sumeru. This was previously held by Azar, who turned out to be more than just corrupt.

The Scribe of the Akademiya, Alhaitham, had one of the biggest parts to play in overthrowing his reign and saving the land of Sumeru. Not only did he formulate an entire plan on his own, but he executed it with the help of others in the smoothest way possible. However, by the end of the quest, he is appointed to be the Acting Grand Sage of Sumeru.

Who Stands as the Grand Sage of Sumeru?

Following the events of the Archon quests, Alhaitham does not seem to be too pleased with his newfound position. He never intended to take what might as well be the position directly below Lesser Lord Kusanali herself. All he wanted was to expose Azar and fix things in the process. However, he was handed the highest honor. This did not sit well with him as he enjoyed being the Scribe of Sumeru instead.

By the end of the Traveler’s time in Sumeru, Alhaitham talks about resigning from the position, wanting to return as a Scribe. Being from Haravatat, his knowledge is both widespread and respected. However, it is not one that he wants to tower with responsibility. Even for his story quest, Alhaitham remains to be the Acting Grand Sage. In terms of a longer run, the position remains empty until another takes his place.
