Genshin Impact introduced an array of new characters in Version 4.0 including the Iudex Neuvillette. The Chief Justice of Fontaine appears to be an intimidating entity presiding over the nation of Justice. He is supported by not only the Archon Focalors but also the Duke Wriothesley. So far Fontaine has given out a great deal of information, but at the same time, it has also raised a series of new ones.
There have been various kinds of characters all of whom have the power to wield one or the other element. Whether their personalities meet their combat skills may not apply so much. For example, Alhaitham, the Acting Grand Sage of Sumeru does not like fighting so much, but he can easily challenge General Mahamatra Cyno. Both of them are Vision holders capable of facing each other. Neuvillette might be a similar case.
Genshin Impact Breaks the Pattern with Neuvillette
Neuvillette, known throughout Fontaine as the Iudex and the Ordainer of Inexorable Judgment, is a Hydro-wielding character in Genshin Impact. Throughout the last three years, the game has released a series of non-human characters. From feline creatures Diona to Melusines such as Sigewinne and even a fox and a youkai like Yae Miko and Kirara, there have been various kinds of characters.
Neuvillette’s real identity was not revealed until the end of the second part of Version 4.1’s Archon Quest, Cataclysm’s Quickening. In it, the Iudex himself confirms that he is the Hydro Sovereign or the Hydro Dragon. This position had been one rumored to be of Kokomi’s ever since her character was released during the second anniversary of the game. However, that has since been debunked, proving that the real holder of that title was none other than Neuvillette.
Unlike other characters such as the Vision holders or even Archons, who have their Gnoses, Neuvillette stands as an exception. So far the only person without a Gnosis or a Vision had been the Traveler. That seems to have changed since the Iudex is the sole holder of the Ancient Dragon’s Authority.
The Hydro Dragon and the Traveler
Ever since the introduction of Mondstadt, the Traveler has always had a similar kit to that of the Archon. Whether it is Venti’s ultimate, Zhongli’s skill (not held), Raiden Shogun’s skill or quite literally being a free-to-play version of Nahida, there have always been some similarities. As for the Hydro Traveler, his held skill is much too similar to that of Neuvillette’s charged attack. That brings into question, just how important is the Iudex in Fontaine.
As per Version 4.1, it can be seen that he most certainly holds more power both via body language and natural strength as compared to Furina, who is the Hydro Archon. Although neither of them possesses the Gnosis at the moment, he has been the last line of defense for a nation waiting to drown. Whatever may be the fate of the nation, it is of utmost surety that Neuvillette may be a bit more significant than Focalors, especially considering how much she relies on him as well.
