Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy Entertainment might not have succeeded in releasing a blockbuster game, but they released a very well-made title. This game looks excellent and has been loved by every gamer who has tried their hands at it. The best part is that they improved significantly over the prequel in terms of gameplay. It wears its Resident Evil influence on its sleeves.

Its story, too, was something else; it features a parallel narrative simultaneously telling the story of two different characters at the same time. To add to everything else, its ending was such that fans are still wondering if this game will get a sequel or not. A lot of signs from the developer and its latest game suggest that there will indeed be a sequel.

No, Alan Wake 2 is not the last game in the series

A while ago, when Control launched, it featured a protagonist dealing with a broken world infested with a bunch of weird otherworldly things. It was a reality-defying adventure that showcased to gamers that Quantum Break was not the peak of what Remedy Entertainment was capable of. And then they launched a DLC for Control.

They released an expansion called AWE for Control. It was launched back in August 2020, and it gave fans a glimpse of something very special. It was a new story that allowed players to explore the Investigation Sector in the Old House. This setup was intriguing enough, but this was not all fans were getting; they also got proof that Control is connected to the Alan Wake universe.

Ever since Alan Wake: American Nightmare back in 2012, this was the first confirmation fans got a hint that they could expect to see him again. And they did when Remedy, all high on the success of Control, announced Alan Wake 2, and after a period of development, it finally launched back in 2023.

As mentioned above, the game is excellent, and to make sure everyone can play it, Remedy has even introduced a patch so it can run on older hardware. Some say they did this to ensure it would attract some new buyers. Whatever their reason might be, at least some new gamers would get to experience how excellent this game actually is.

What about a sequel, though? Would there ever be a sequel to Alan Wake 2? Some say yes, and as said above, there are a bunch of arrows clearly pointing at the possibility of a sequel. There are chances people would see a sequel, and Remedy would complete this series with a trilogy.

There are a bunch of theories about why this is the case, but here are some facts that hint at this sequel. First, it’s an expanding universe, and Remedy keeps on joining it: Control, Alan Wake, and, in some way, Max Payne and Quantum Break too. All games have some connection.

Talking of just Control, there are clear hints that Alan Wake would be a part of Control 2 in a bigger way. Then there’s Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey theory. It basically explains, in 12 simple steps, how a hero becomes a hero.

He goes on a journey; he crosses a threshold, faces an ordeal, gets his reward, and then starts on his journey back home. Alan Wake has yet to get back; he has faced an ordeal, and he has crossed a threshold. Maybe this sequel would complete this arch.

Whatever may come though, it would only come after Control 2 releases; that game itself is years ago right now, which means fans would be waiting for years before Alan Wake 3 is even announced.

Maybe Remedy Entertainment would end this story with a DLC?

While fans might hope for a brand-new game, Alan Wake 2 is technically not successful enough to justify a sequel. So, what can the developers do? They can bring a DLC that ends the story of Alan Wake for good. He can then keep up his appearances in the Control franchise.

The other thing is that fans asking for this sequel would have to wait and see how Control 2 performs. Alan Wake 2 happened because Control was such a massive hit; maybe the success of Control 2 and Max Payne remakes would also make this game a possibility.
