Sony Pictures Animation, in association with Marvel Entertainment, introduced the world to Miles Morales a.k.a. Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This animated movie in the Spider-Man franchise is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman. Shameik Moore voices the character of Miles Morales. Amy Pascal serves as one of the producers on the movie.
The Spider-Verse arc is said to be inspired by Amazing Spider-Man in addition to taking inspiration from Ultimate Marvel comics. The movie is dedicated to the memories of the creators of Spider-Man, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who are no longer among us. Over the years, Miles Morales’ popularity has only grown among the fans, and they can not wait to see a live-action movie of the animated character. And now, producer Amy Pascal has an update on the same.
Amy Pascal assures fans that there will be a live-action Miles Morales movie
Producer Amy Pascal recently attended the Academy Award 2024 Luncheon, during which she spoke to Variety and was asked about the development of the live-action Miles Morales movie. Pascal said,
“Someday. Not until we make two more movies. Someday. Someday. We’re very happy doing the animated Spider-Verse movies.”
The co-writer and producer of the Spider-Verse trilogy also added to the conversation by stating that she’s right, she’s the boss. Last summer, Amy Pascal was asked about her thoughts on Disney’s MCU and Sony’s Spider-Verse crossover, to which she said during Tom Holland‘s cover story with THR,
“They’re completely separate worlds. You never know. I would never say no to anything. But we have a lot of movies to make about Miles and a lot of movies to make about Peter. I am a movie producer. I want to keep going with this franchise with Tom Holland.”
Talking about animation, the directors of 2023 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse; Joaquin Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson shared during Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast about the changes the industry needs. They said,
“I think it’s worth repeating; animation is a big business for the industry. We bring a ton to the table; without it, everybody hurts. I also want to add that doing an animated film shouldn’t be a sacrifice for the artist doing it.”
The trio agreed that the industry needs to understand that animation is important to the entire cinema ecosystem, adding that the truth is that movies can never come back unless animation comes back.
