Henry Cavill has embodied a range of characters throughout his career, but one of his most commendable roles to date is still DC’s Superman. Since he is often referred to as one of the best portrayers of the Man of Steel to date, fans were utterly devastated when they found out he would no longer be donning the suit of their favorite Kryptonian superhero.
However, that just might come to change now if Argylle helmer Matthew Vaughn decides to step into the picture and save him. As can be derived from the filmmaker’s recent statements, Vaughn just might prove to be Cavill’s golden ticket back to the DC Universe through one Elseworlds’ story that fans have been waiting for all along.
Henry Cavill Just Might Re-Enter DC Universe Through Matthew Vaughn
While Henry Cavill already has two much-awaited spy-action movies lined up for this year, i.e. Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, his next project in prospect just might be one that fans have been looking forward to for a long time now: Superman: Red Son.
Though nothing has been confirmed yet about this probable project, Argylle director Matthew Vaughn’s statements during his recent appearance on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast have induced massive speculation on the matter.
In the interview, Vaughn was asked that since he is so in love with the DC Universe, which is reportedly in talks to do “Elseworlds type stuff” as per BroBible, what approach he would try to take if working on the Red Son project. To this, the director said:
“I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history… Wow, could you imagine remaking Red Son with Henry Cavill? That would be an interesting movie…”
The statement has ignited so much speculation that sources are even expecting Vaughn to be Cavill’s golden ticket back to the DC Universe through a possible Superman: Red Son project from the Elseworlds imprints.
For those who don’t know, Superman: Red Son is actually an original comic book miniseries by DC Comics under the Elseworlds imprints, which raises the question that could change everything: “What if Superman had been raised in the Soviet Union?”
Since Matthew Vaughn didn’t make any further comments on whether he would take on the project or even if the project is being or could be developed, nothing can be said for sure for now about Superman: Red Son. However, if the interest he expressed does end up bagging him a chance to direct for the DC Universe, then there is no doubt that he would bring Henry Cavill on board to once again don the costume of the Kryptonian superhero, Superman.

According to BroBible, James Gunn and Peter Safran reportedly claimed that DC Studios would be developing Elseworlds projects as well during the time that they serve as the CEOs of the studios. This makes the chance of a Superman: Red Son project happening all the more likely.
Still, even if it does end up happening, it would be too early to assume that it would include Henry Cavill only as Superman or that Matthew Vaughn would be called in to helm it.
Nonetheless, despite being a mere speculative report, this hasn’t stopped fans from hoping and getting all giddy just thinking about one of their favorite Superman portrayers once again donning the suit of the superhero. Judging from all these reviews, it would do James Gunn a lot of good to bring Henry Cavill back to the franchise to play Superman once again, even if it’s for an Elseworlds story. But then again, only time can tell what could truly end up happening.
