George Miller’s grand preparation for Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is all set to hit the theaters. The new movie to the franchise will see The Queen’s Gambit and The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy playing the lead character of Imperator Furiosa, chronicling the backstory of Charlize Theron’s character in Tom Hardy starrer Mad Max: Fury Road.
Earlier, Theron revealed that Taylor-Joy did not reach out to her before jumping into the sand to live the world of Furiosa in Miller’s prequel. Recently, The Northman star revealed that she reached out to Theron as soon as the production ended while explaining the reason behind not reaching out soon.
Anya Taylor-Joy Finally Reached Out To Charlize Theron
Anya Taylor-Joy is now one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood, with her impressive resume complemented by several acclaimed credits, including her 2020 romance comedy EMMA. The actor traveled back in time to George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga by transforming into Furiosa— a role previously played by Charlize Theron. She portrayed the later/older version of the character. However, Taylor-Joy did not reach out to Theron before the production of the movie that stars Marvel veteran Chris Hemsworth as the villain.
“You have to go on your own journey with it. But as soon as it was done, I reached out to her because I’m such a fan, not only of her as an actress but her as a person,” Taylor-Joy told EW in a recent interview.
Understandable, Taylor-Joy has been pretty serious about her craft, and it is well evident in her works. The actor is precise in the selection of scripts and landing on the movie roles. Also, her recent comments reveal that she likes to immerse herself in the roles she plays on her own. The trailer for the movie has already revealed the depth of the narrative and Taylor-Joy’s performance in the upcoming movie.
Charlize Theron Reflected On Anya Taylor-Joy’s Movie
Miller’s plan to reboot his own Mel Gibson-led franchise after a 30-year hiatus worked like a charm, starring Tom Hardy as Max. Mad Max: Fury Road was a critical hit with six Oscar wins out of ten nominations. Again, after nearly a decade, Miller decided to make a prequel to the saga instead of roping into a sequel right after. In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron revealed that she was not upset with the director as he went for the prequel of the movie.
“Listen, I’m not mad about [Miller doing a prequel instead of a sequel]. One of the greatest fucking actresses [Anya Taylor-Joy] is picking up something that I only imagined,” Theron said.
The actor further revealed that Taylor-Joy did not immediately reach out to her but she understands it. “No,” she said when asked if the Queen’s Gambit star contacted her regarding the role.
“But I get that. It’s always tricky. Who wants to pick up the phone and say, like, ‘Hey, we’re going to go do this without you.’ No one wants to do that. So, I totally get that. And I love George. I know I’ll talk to him again. I think it was just too hard.”
Almost anyone can feel that Theron was, at least a little sad letting the role go, but Taylor-Joy’s recent comments seem reassuring. Also, Miller recently revealed that (per EW), he is planning on another movie for the franchise indicating the expansion of the Mad Max saga. And the chances of Theron appearing in the future Mad Max movies are promising.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is slated for 23 May 2024 release.
