Singer Billie Eilish and actress Melissa McCarthy hit the stage together at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards to present the award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series. On the stage, McCarthy revealed that she had met Eilish even before she was born as Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, was her first improv teacher and was pregnant with Eilish.
Further during their conversation, McCarthy asked Eilish to sign her gown but since Eilish refused to ruin her look, she asked her to sign her face instead. Eilish’s 2024 has been good so far as the singer accepted the Song of the Year for “What Was I Made For?” at the 2024 Grammys with her brother, Finneas.
Melissa McCarthy says she met Billie Eilish before she was born
While presenting an award at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, actress Melissa McCarthy told singer Billie Eilish in a skit that she met her before she was born. McCarthy met Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, when she was pregnant with the singer, so, technically, the actress met her before she was born. McCarthy explained that it was not their first meeting,
“Since you’re asking, I actually met you in utero because your mom [Maggie Baird] was my first improv teacher. And guess who she was pregnant with? It was you.”
Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, is an American actress. Baird made her television debut in 1981 in the soap opera Another World and her film debut in the 1989 movie, An Innocent Man. In 1991, she became a member and teacher at The Groundlings, a troupe and Improvisational theatre school in Los Angeles. Eilish’s father, Patrick O’Connell, was also an actor and has been working on Eilish’s tours after his retirement.
Billie Eilish autographed Melissa McCarthy’s forehead
Since McCarthy is a huge fan of Eilish, she asked her to autograph her gown but Eilish refused as she didn’t want to ruin her look. McCarthy didn’t give up as she pulled out a black Sharpie and asked the singer to sign her face. Eilish then autographed her forehead.
This won’t be Eilish’s last award show as the singer is all set to attend the upcoming 96th Academy Awards as her song “What Was I Made For?” from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (2023) is nominated for best original song. If Eilish wins, this will be her second Academy Award in this category as her song, “No Time to Die” won in 2022.
Eilish also won in the categories Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2024 Grammys for her song “What Was I Made For?” At the age of 22, Eilish is the youngest artist in Grammy history to win all four general field categories (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist) in the same year.
