Bloodborne is an underutilized PlayStation gem that has been collecting dust in the company’s basement for far too long. Fortunately, Team Asobi didn’t forget the iconic Soulsborne exclusive from the previous console generation and paid homage through Astro Bot as a cosmetic item.

The family-friendly franchise of the developers is the perfect way to reminisce about the history of the company. Although the gaming community has been begging for new content related to the Soulsborne game, this is probably the closest the fans will get to a remaster.

This is not the first time the company has done something with the franchise that isn’t necessarily what the gaming community wanted. Sony revealed a new batch of merchandise inspired by Bloodborne, which is still a win for the fans, but they could not shake the feeling of being trolled.

The recent State of Play had several reveals, but the consensus is that not everyone was pleased by what was shown. A highlight of the event was Team Asobi’s Astro Bot; the developers did their homework and wanted to honor the major first-party franchises of the platform.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted how accurate and detailed the Uncharted callback was in the teaser. Fans are enthusiastic about the toy gun Nathan Drake once used in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End being perfectly recreated in the Astro Bot teaser, which could be the first of many more deep-cut references.

Bloodborne Fans Just Can’t Catch a Break From Sony

Sony has no interest in revisiting the Bloodborne franchise.
Sony doesn’t seem to have any interest in revisiting the Bloodborne IP.

The creators of the game even expressed interest in expanding the lore through a sequel and even had other games make direct references that led the gaming community to believe that FromSoftware is working on a direct sequel. Unfortunately, it was never the case.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki once mentioned that the references and easter eggs found in Déraciné were the studio’s way to honor the Soulsborne title but were in no way a confirmation for new content. Miyazaki felt that these actions caused Sony a great inconvenience, and the fans are pressuring the company to greenlight a sequel or even a remaster.

Not all hope is lost for the beloved Soulsborne IP, especially under the new leadership. Hideaki Nishino is the new co-CEO of PlayStation and was already pestered with the question that was long evaded by his predecessor.

Fortunately, Nishino’s attitude towards the franchise is positive, and he once mentioned his passion for it, which could pave the way for a remaster.

Sony is not deaf and can hear the demand for a remaster, but it refuses to give the gaming community what it wants for reasons unknown. Perhaps the company is steering away from any mature content, which is why it is leaning towards something lighthearted and family-friendly like Team Asobi’s project.
