Call of Duty 2024 rumors have started to flood as we approach the halfway point in the year. Sources suggest the title is Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War.
In a now-deleted tweet, this new CoD will feature shooting while diving, returning guns like the AK74u and MP5, and using enemies as a meat shield.
All very exciting additions, with the latter pulled straight from the Gears of War series. If everything is true, CoD is making a massive comeback later this year.
What To Expect For Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War
Details started to float around after Xbox announced its Games Showcase for June 9th followed by [REDACTED] Direct. The “redacted” direct suggests a Call of Duty event that will officially reveal Black Ops Gulf War.
The name suggests the return from Call of Duty studio Treyarch who are known for the Black Ops titles. The previous Black Ops game released in 2020 named Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
If the rumors are true, Treyarch and Xbox could have a heavy hitter for CoD later this year. Not only would fan favorite weapons return like the AK74u and the MP5 but also a classic CoD map as well.
Anyone who played Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010 will remember the map Firing Range, a small-medium sized multiplayer map that was well loved by the community.
So much so, the map has returned in other CoD titles like Black Ops III and Call of Duty: Mobile. Although Treyarch is bringing back favorites from the community, the team is making changes to freshen up the franchise.
Is Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War Stealing From Gears of War?
New features like enemy meat shields and shooting while diving will for sure mix things up in multiplayer. Meat shields were featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s campaign but not in the multiplayer.
Some players might think of meat shields and associate it with Gears of War, the popular Xbox third-person shooter. The idea of meat shields isn’t new for shooting games but Gears of War made it a staple for the franchise.
Call of Duty might be borrowing a page from Gears of War’s book but if the action works flawlessly, players will have fun performing it.
The ability to now shoot while diving will also change the multiplayer dynamic. For the longest time, when Treyarch introduced Dolphin Diving in 2010 with Black Ops, players could dive to prone quicker.
You cannot shoot your gun while diving and you can’t shoot instantly after the dive is complete. To now rectify that and allow the player to shoot while diving will be interesting.
