Daredevil: Born Again was formally announced in July 2022 with 18 episodes for its first season. Chris Ord and Matt Corman were announced as head writers and filming for the series began March 6, 2023, in New York, but was paused due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

During this period, Marvel Studios decided to creatively overhaul the project with almost half of the first season already filmed. As a result of the creative overhaul, head writers Ord and Corman departed the series, and some portions were rewritten. The decision to bring back Henson and Ann Woll was likely also taken during the creative overhaul.

Ord and Corman were replaced by Dario Scardapane, who serves as showrunner. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who worked on Moon Knight and Loki season 2, were hired to direct the remaining episodes. Filming on the series is expected to resume in 2024, with the hopes of an early 2025 release.
