Chris Evans played Steve Rogers / Captain America throughout the first three phases of the MCU. Evans had signed a contract for three standalone Captain America movies, which ended with Civil War. The new film features Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson after he took over the mantle in the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The SAG-AFTRA strikes have caused a delay in production, but sources suggest that the strikes are not the sole reason.

Jeff Sneider shared in the latest The Hot Mic episode with John Rocha that the film didn’t perform well in test screenings. The abysmal test scores led to the film going back to the editing table. Reportedly, three key sequences were removed from the film, and the crew is planning extensive 6-month reshoots from January to June of 2024.

However, Brave New World is not the only movie with a significant delay. The anti-hero ensemble Thunderbolts was pushed back to July 25, 2025, from December 20, 2024. Mahershala Ali’s debut as Blade is not happening until 2025, almost six years after his signing. However, Deadpool 3 only has a slight delay, moving from May 3rd of next year to July 26th.

Other than Anthony Mackie’s new stint as Captain America, the legendary Harrison Ford’s involvement adds an exciting factor. Ford replaces the late actor William Hurt in the role of Thaddeus Ross, who appeared as U.S. Secretary of State in Captain America: Civil War. The character is also The President of the United States in Brave New World. Interestingly, Liv Tyler, who portrayed Ross’s daughter in The Incredible Hulk, reprises her role as Betty Ross.

The fourth Captain America movie kicked off its production on March 21 this year at Trilith Studios, Atlanta. A few set photos circulated online, featuring Sam Wilson and Harrison Ford, and also revealing the antagonists of the movie, the Serpent Society. Another interesting character in the film is Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres, who takes over as MCU’s new Falcon.
