Dave Bautista Spoke About His Future with DCU Under James Gunn
Dave Bautista, the former WWE champion known for his role as Drax in MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, shared his enthusiasm to again work with James Gunn. The athlete-turned-actor, during his recent chat with ComicBook.com, spoke about his desire to join DCU.
“I would love to work with James again, whether it’s DC Universe or not. I just love James Gunn. He’s an incredible director and we have a camaraderie that’s priceless. So to work with him again ? I mean I’d do it for free. But, we just haven’t had the conversations. He’s on top of DC now. He’s doing his thing. I’m trying to grind along in my processing. But, I’m always open-minded too and I’ve expressed that to him.”
In the meantime, he shared a concept art of the character Bane. That ignited the possibility of him working under Gunn again.

It was followed by James Gunn also expressing his desire to have the Guardians of the Galaxy actor join the DC Universe, as he asked fans on Threads, “Who would you like to see Dave play in the DCU?” While fans have suggested various characters for him to portray, most of the fans are hoping to see the actor taking on the role of either the Batman nemesis Bane or Hugo Strange.
How Fans See This?
Before Drax the Destroyer and the near-miss of Bane, Dave Bautista did some acting in a little-known area of the DC universe called Smallville. In the appropriately named sixth season episode Scare, Bautista portrayed Aldar.
And now, as he shares his interest in joining DCU, fans also took to X to share what they think about this move.
Need this to happen. DC about to give Marvel a run for its money.

It’s “concept art” for the people saying it’s terrible, doesn’t mean it was gonna be exactly like the picture. I think that there’s a lot of potential if they decide to do this.

What if Bautista is Bane in DCU and Hugo Strange in The Batman universe???
This would be a massive win for him. He could play a role that suits his physicality and also a psychologically challenging one too.
