Deadpool has been routinely known to break the fourth wall, something he has become synonymous with. Call it a power or a side effect, this ability of the character can have some very interesting consequences when it is paired with other powers. Ever wondered what Deadpool will be able to do with telepathy? While we might never know, this is what he did when he received the Infinity gems.
Given that Deadpool is aware of the fact that he is a comic book character, his way of thinking is quite different from other Marvel heroes and villains. When handed the Infinity Gems, Deadpool is the only truly omnipotent character in the Marvel Universe, One Above All included. Deadpool decided that for his use alone, he would craft a seventh Infinity Gem, calling it the Continuity Gem, given that he is the only one who understands his world as a comic book medium.
Deadpool’s Continuity Gem is every Marvel Editor’s Nightmare
Using the Infinity Gems to make the Continuity Gem, Deadpool proceeds to change Marvel canon as he sees fit. The neat part about the gem is that it can only work for Deadpool, who is already aware of the fact that he is a comic book character. Theoretically, any other character will not know what to do with the Continuity Gem, or even go mad when they try to wield its power.
However, this was not an issue for Deadpool at all, who created a girlfriend for himself, and gave her a canon backstory, so much so that Deadpool was ready to get married to her. However, the bride was killed at the wedding, which Deadpool immediately recognized as a pop-culture reference.
Owing to this, he realized that keeping the continuity straight must be a nightmare, and decided to just toss the Continuity Gem aside. This would cue the editors at Marvel to actually reach into the comics and safely discard the gem, with the hopes that it would stay out of the wrong hands.
Could the Continuity Gem make an appearance in the MCU?
Deadpool is going to make his appearance in the MCU, bringing the mutants with him. Not only that, the character is also going to have a brush with the TVA, perhaps even serve as their enforcer in multiple timelines. The TVA is also known to confiscate Infinity Stones from its prisoners, which might be used by Deadpool to create a Continuity Stone in the MCU, which it could then use.
Doing so would give Deadpool nigh-unlimited power in the MCU, but it would also allow Kevin Feige and the likes to directly interfere with the story and change it to fit what works best for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
They could redo plotlines, remove problematic characters and storylines, undo flops, and reset everything in a manner that allows the MCU to have a fresh start without having to reboot completely. While this is highly unlikely, who knows, especially with Ryan Reynolds involved?
