A new trailer for the Deadpool threequel, Deadpool & Wolverine, has just dropped! And the hype meter has just crossed a new level! Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of this film, even more so as leaks began popping up all over the internet since last year. Though several heroes and villains are rumored to be making an appearance in the movie, the recent trailer teases the arrival of Doctor Strange.

However, if there’s something we know about Marvel, is that when it comes to their most hyped-up projects, their trailers are not always 100% faithful. There has been some tweaking done in the past before, and there’s a possibility it might be happening again. This time, in the case of The Sorcerer Supreme.

So is it really Doctor Strange in the trailer? Or someone else?

The Sorcerer opening a portal in Deadpool 3 might not be Doctor Strange

A project as huge as Deadpool & Wolverine, with a cast so big, is bound to have rumors and speculations equally as wild. No matter how credible some teases or leaks might seem to be, there are quite a few that always turn into a wild goose chase. A particular scene in the latest Deadpool 3 trailer screams Doctor Strange. But is it really him?

The trailer only shows a portal through which Deadpool and Wolverine are trying to escape, from Alioth and possibly Cassandra Nova. However, we can’t see the sorcerer who’s conjuring the portal. As we know Marvel rarely ever does anything without a reason, this might as well be a hint; that the one fans are logically expecting isn’t actually there.

Besides Doctor Strange, we know only one sorcerer capable of opening portals like these, the current Sorcerer Supreme Wong. As seen at the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wong was seen gathering heroes to prepare against a powerful threat. Strange, after his multiverse-shattering adventure in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, might not be mentally prepared to take a stroll through them again, especially after witnessing Wanda’s death.

MCU has misled fans in the past

If the MCU is actually trying to stray fans away in a different direction, it won’t be the first time. Marvel had let rumors fly that a variant of Tony Stark aka Iron Man, played by Tom Cruise, would make an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This was also heavily teased by the trailers which showed Iron Legion drones in the Illuminati headquarters. However, Iron Man or any variant of him was absent in the final cut.

The rumors took flight not only because of the misleading trailers, but also due to the fact that Cruise was once in the running to play Tony Stark back in 2008. Iron Man has traditionally been a member of the Illuminati in the comics as well, further adding fuel to the fire and going poof in a smoke of disappointment.

Who do you think is the sorcerer opening the portal? Doctor Strange or Wong?
