Over the last few years, Marvel has produced a mixed bag of films with some setting the box office alight and others falling flat with audiences and critics. Morbius starring Jared Leto unfortunately belonged to the second category. The third film from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe could not find favor despite having a charismatic A-list star like Leto as the titular lead.
Though fans ripped apart the film, it surprisingly scored over the much more popular Spider-man: Homecoming in one particular aspect. Marvel fans believed that the mask of the sinister villain Vulture who is common to both films was way superior in Morbius to the one seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Morbius Scored Over Spider-Man: Homecoming For This One Reason
Jared Leto’s star power could not save 2022’s Morbius from sinking at the box office. Despite the enigmatic Marvel adversary being brought to life impressively by Leto, the other aspects of the film did not connect with audiences and critics alike. But there was one saving grace for the film that hawk-eyed fans noticed.
Adrian Toomes aka Vulture played by Michael Keaton is one of Marvel’s chilling antagonists who appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming and in the end credits scene in Morbius. The character who is integral to both storylines, indirectly managed to retain a little shred of respect for Morbius thanks to his mask which netizens albeit grudgingly pointed out, was significantly cooler in shape and structure in the Leto film.

I’m not sure how it got better. Has to do with Spider-Man, I think?

wait no what why does Morbius's look better

God, that Morbius helmet is way better. The brighter green and the sharp mouth section, giving it more of a bird beak just looks so sick

Somehow someway Morbius’ design goes harder.

Meanwhile, there have been rumors circulating that Keaton’s Vulture will find a place in the future after talks of a 4th Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland is said to be in the works.
Are Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Feuding Over Spider-Man 4?
After Spider-Man: No Way Home left fans speculating on the fate of the character, Kevin Feige announced that a 4th film featuring Tom Holland is being planned. While the franchise is still keeping its cards close to its chest, a few reports indicate that Holland’s Spider-Man will be part of a more grounded narrative that will give him space to explore the emotional aspects of the character in an effort to make him more relatable to fans.
But it seems like Feige’s vision for the film many not be what Sony Pictures have in mind. According to writer Daniel Richtman (via The Hollywood Handle), the production house who has been the main collaborator with Marvel for the Spider-Man films, is reportedly looking at a completely different approach to the film. This includes making it a grandiose spectacle by allegedly bringing back former alums Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to add to the star value.
This ‘cash grab’ path to success has become a hot talking point online. Many fans were critical of Sony’s commercialization of the franchise and felt that this is not the right way to take the film forward, especially since Spider-Man: No Way Home laid the foundation for a more relatable narrative.
Despite huge hype being created with the epic collaboration of Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, it could become a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth 4th time around. This could also dilute the gravity of Peter Parker’s story going forward and undo the emotional climax of the 3rd film that set the stage for the deeper aspects of the narrative to develop.
