In a court document found by TorrentFreak lawyers who represented the player came to an agreement with Bungie. The player, (referred to by their initials, L.L.) was said to have used cheat software in Destiny 2 “countless times”, with each use constituting as an act of circumvention. The defendant was said to have engaged in at least 100 acts of circumvention, totalling $200,000 USD.

Along with the $200,000 USD in circumvention, Bungie was also entitled to statutory damages for each “infringed work” which resulted in a total of $300,000. To ensure that the defendant would not repeat their alleged behaviour, a set of restraints surrounding cheat software on Bungie-owned properties was placed upon L.L. to avoid future conflicts between the defendant and Bungie.

Bungie also issued a restraining order on L.L with the stipulations being that they are unable to:

“Travel within 1000 feet of Bungie’s offices, or knowingly travel within 1000 feet of the known home address of any Bungie employee, except as is incidental to travel on public highways and roadways…”

Alongside the restraining order and damages to be paid out, L.L. will also be unable to participate in any Bungie-made game in future. This includes the new entry in the Marathon series and any games preceding it.

While L.L. is a 17-year minor, after the details of the case became clear, including the threat to Bungie employees and their safety, any sympathy for the teen seemed to quickly evaporate. Although the DMCA claims relating to Destiny 2 and other Bungie IPs are serious enough,  it was the allegations of a long-running harassment campaign against Bungie employees, that took centre stage.

According to TorrentFreak while L.L. mounted a robust defence against the claims the fact it was “absent of remorse” and “logical” led to a less than effective result for Teenage Troll.
