The excitement levels for the next installment in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series keep increasing as fans get closer to the still-unannounced release date. However, the trailer rollout for Sparking Zero has been nothing short of genius, as each new footage follows a specific theme while revealing the fighters that will be making their way onto the roster.

The announcement trailer at The Game Awards 2023 was followed by Rivals, which showcased Goku and Vegeta’s love-hate relationship, after which came Power vs. Speed, and it looks like the next theme will continue the trend of character reveals that fans would appreciate.

Masters and Disciples Has Always Been a Core Theme of Dragon Ball

The last two trailers for the next Dragon Ball game have both followed specific themes and revealed various characters.

Through what appears to be a now-deleted post, Bandai Namco Entertainment seemingly revealed the theme of the next Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero trailer: Masters and Disciples.

Accompanied by images of four Z fighters who also happen to be memorable teacher-student duos from the source material, the post featured Master Roshi and Yamcha, along with Piccolo and Kid Gohan. Mentorship is a theme that has always been a core aspect of the series, including the OG anime, Z, and GT, resulting in some of the greatest moments from the shows.

The tease for the next Sparking Zero trailer may not seem like that big of a deal, but Dragon Ball fans know just how significant the potential theme truly is. Even Goku was not always Earth’s strongest defender and had to undergo intense training to achieve godly powers, and after his grandfather’s tragic death, it was a teacher and guide in the form of Master Roshi who helped Kakarot navigate life.

But aside from that, there are quite a few other excellent teacher-student combos that the series has brought together, and it would be amazing to see some of them in the upcoming Budokai Tenkaichi entry.

Iconic Stories like The History of Trunks Could Be Coming to Sparking Zero

With Super Trunks already revealed, Sparking Zero could retell the tragic story of the character and his teacher, Gohan.

Since Sparking Zero will likely include characters from the movies as well, it would be a wasted opportunity not to feature one of the most heartbreaking Dragon Ball stories of all time: The History of Trunks.

Before traveling to the past and warning the Z fighters about the incoming Android threat, the dystopian tale of Trunks is extremely saddening, but a silver lining is his wholesome master-disciple relationship with Goku’s son, Future Gohan.

Super Trunks has already been officially confirmed as part of the roster, but the inclusion of his teacher and the tragic story that follows the pair would be a wrenching punch in the nostalgic gut.

Which teacher-student duo are you hoping to see in the game?
