Goku is believed to be the first Saiyan to achieve the Super Saiyan state in over a thousand years. But doesn’t it sound too unnatural to you? Even if we don’t count Goku, Dragon Ball has numerous Super Saiyan transformations. So how come the species known for their bloodlust never attained the most basic Super Saiyan state in a thousand years?
What if the unattainable Saiyan form was never the base yellow one but something else? Goku and Vegeta, who are both far-removed from the Saiyan society might not even know which state is in the legends.
One character, however, showed a transformation, which could very well be in the Saiyan legends.
Kale’s Super Saiyan Green (Berserker) in Dragon Ball
Kale is a pure-blooded Saiyan from Universe 6. She is a Legendary Saiyan who appears once every 1000 years. She is featured in Dragon Ball Super and her Berserker transformation is enough even to make Goku and Vegeta think twice before attacking her.
She can unlock a Super Saiyan Berserker mode with her rage, which gives her green hair and bulging muscles. She participated in the Tournament of Power against Goku and Vegeta. She then personally fought Goku and in the battle, she could easily shrug off Goku. Even Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue form did not affect Kale.
Kale walked through Goku’s Kamehameha blast unfazed. However, her power was somewhat unstable since she had rarely used it so far. Once she unleashed her rage, it was very hard for the participants to detain her, and a simple roar shook the entire battlefield.
Later when Kale gained full control of her transformation, she released enough energy to make a meditating Jiren flinch. Even Vegeta and Top were distracted from their battle because of her aura. She attained a True Legendary Super Saiyan form, which took Goku by surprise.
Kale’s Green Legendary Super Saiyan Might Have Been the Actual Super Saiyan All Along
A fan theory suggests that Goku was never the rare Saiyan to achieve the Super Saiyan state after a thousand years. In fact, they simply never knew what was meant by Legendary Saiyan. It is possible that Kale’s Legendary Saiyan transformation was the one listed in Saiyan legends.
Goku and Vegeta simply mistook the base Super Saiyan form for the rare one. If you follow this logic, it means that Goku, Vegeta, and the others are not even Super Saiyans. They just took the yellow hair as the main power-up, whereas they should have sought the rare green hair.
Similarly, the Super Saiyan God ritual might need the real Super Saiyan state to achieve its full potential. The red-haired Super Saiyan God form could have been way more effective against Beerus if it was Kale instead of Goku. Even Broly’s green-haired form might have worked. If someone of Kale and Broly’s level had gone through the ritual then maybe Dragon Ball viewers would have witnessed the birth of a true Super Saiyan God who can rival Beerus.
