The first installment in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune saga was a grand success, and fans are expecting the second one to be equally triumphant.
Since the first movie of the same name made sure to cross at least the $400 million mark ($433,796,625, to be more precise, as per Box Office Mojo) on a budget of an estimated $165 million despite the pandemic in 2021, Dune Part Two is being hoped to break that record.
But what fans don’t realize is the fact that Part Two‘s success could be much greater than what they’re expecting of it. If anything, Part Two could very well prove to surpass everyone’s expectations and maybe even cross the $1 billion mark on its road to victory.

When it comes to Dune Part Two, there is more than one reason why it could be a much more massive success than its predecessor.
While the creators were initially much considerate with their box-office productions for the recently released masterpiece, these feelings are ostensibly changing as more and more movie-goers and fans are complimenting the movie and tremendously contributing to its success.
Judging from its current going, it’s even possible that instead of bringing in a little more than a hundred million or two more than the first one, Part Two could end up crossing even the $1 billion mark.
Why? Well, out of the uncountable reasons why, here are the three most accurate and practically important ones that more than just justify why this second installment led by Timothée Chalamet could make more money than what fans are expecting.
1. Dune Part Two is Tracking a Massive Opening Weekend Collection
Previously, Variety had reported that the big-budget sequel to Dune was being tracked to bring in a conservative revenue of at least $65 million domestically and $75 million internationally in its opening weekend, making it a total of $140 million worldwide.
This amount was pretty much settled upon because of the first installment, which brought in $41 million in its opening weekend, having been released during the pandemic in 2021.
However, for Dune Part Two, these predictions have massively soared ever since the release of the film. According to the most recent reports by @HollywoodHandle on X, Part Two is now projected to score a whopping $180 million to $200 million just from its worldwide opening weekend at the box offices.
Since this amount is incredulously more than what the first film garnered, it’s only possible that Dune Part Two ends up with a stunning run of $1 billion, or at least close to it.
2. Dune Part Two is One of The Most-Hyped Films of The Decade
This one needs no justification.
Ever since the first installment of Denis Villeneuve‘s novel-based saga ended on a cliffhanger (or what fans would call an ‘abrupt end’) because it only covered half of the first book, fans had been really, really looking forward to Dune Part Two.
A major reason behind this was their need to see the film complete the first book by Frank Hebert, and finally be at peace with the end. Moreover, the romance teased between Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and Zendaya‘s Chani only further piqued fans’ interest in the film.
Because of all these reasons, Dune Part Two became one of the most anticipated films of the decade, which could quite easily allow it to more than just outperform its predecessor.
3. Dune Part Two had a Stunning Gain in Domestic Previews
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Dune Part Two garnered $12 million only from its previews before officially opening in theatres. As compared to Part One, this is more than just double, considering how the first one brought in $5.1 million from its previews in 2021.
Moreover, comparing it with other box office hits like Barbie and Oppenheimer, these numbers are nothing short of magnificent.
While Barbie‘s previews were considerably more as it racked in $22.3 million, Oppenheimer‘s previews earnings were still a bit shorter than Dune Part Two: $10.5 million.
Furthermore, considering how Oppenheimer, made on $100 million (via THR), went on to gross a whopping $957.6 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo); and Barbie, made on $145 million (via The New York Times), brought in a sparkling $1.4 billion (via Box Office Mojo), it’s only fair to say that the $190 million Dune 2 (via Variety) could outperform at least Oppenheimer if not Barbie.
Adding to all of these is the star-studded cast of Dune Part Two, which includes hotshots like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Florence Pugh among other A-listers like Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, and Christopher Walken.
Moreover, since Part One was such a tremendous success despite having been released during the pandemic at the box offices and on HBO Max simultaneously, Part Two could perform a lot better because of no pandemic nor lockdowns raging at the moment.
Lastly, when considering the early reviews of the film including its 94% rating on the Tomatometer and more than 95% of people loving the film, Part Two holds more than enough promising potential to surpass everyone’s expectations and absolutely crush it at the box office!
