The upcoming Elden Ring DLC is going to be a larger tale of twists, turns, and explorative journeys across a realm called the Land of Shadow. This dream-like region is a step into Marika and Miquella’s history, introducing unique characters and a timeline the Tarnished wasn’t familiar with earlier.
Based on the trailer we recently witnessed, there’s a lot more to this new realm than FromSoftware may tell us. Given how it’s roughly based on the geographical size of Limgrave from the base game, players can expect a similar area to explore but with a lot of depth this time.
What Kind of Landscapes Can We Expect From the Elden Ring DLC?
Right off the bat, there’s something fascinating about the color palette here. From the bright hues of purple and lavender to the dark shades of red and orange, there’s a narrative that FromSoftware wants to point out very clearly. Shadow of the Erdtree is going to mix and match different terrains and settings. This can be purely due to the mixed nature of content updates.
You see, players are going to be exposed to new ways of engaging in combat and stories that intertwine the good, the bad, and the Tarnished of everything that’s been going on in The Lands Between. Given how this new realm is almost (if not larger than) the size of Limgrave, it should give players a rough idea of what to expect.
In the base game, Limgrave is still highly underutilized; enemies walk about aimlessly, with open areas where Torrent can run freely and have a good time. However, there aren’t many bosses or dungeons that challenge players to explore the area in its entirety.
What Kind of Things Can Players Expect From the DLC’s Size?
It would be undermining the creators’ potential to say Shadow of the Erdtree is a simple expansion. That’s simply not true, as multiple weapons, build types, bosses, dungeons, storylines, and characters are going to fill up the experience.
Other than everything that meets the eye, there is a set of features the studio hasn’t been too vocal about. There is going to be a new way of scaling up your characters’ stats so that new and old players both have an equally novel experience with the Elden Ring DLC.
This will be similar to how players usually level up their stats, but with a hint of new mechanics and ‘powers’ we’re not sure of yet. Despite these little mysteries, the stories in the DLC will likely blend into the world’s different settings and how players choose to explore the Land of Shadow.
