Witnessing the official gameplay trailer released back in February, players were able to determine how Messmer is going to hold a lot of significance in the upcoming DLC. This is further given credit by seeing how his character is the only one featured in Shadow of the Erdtree’s main cover, out of everybody else.

Additionally, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s sudden decision to release the story trailer yesterday has brought fans a confirmation of one of the most lingering theories, predicting how Messmer the Impaler is related to none other than Queen Marika herself and was used by her to wage war and wipe out anyone who she considered an opponent.

Fortunately, this theory is most likely to turn out to be true given the circumstances. It was also lightly touched by this user on Reddit, who mentions how the Shadow was born at the same time as Marika’s gold, and what followed was her using Messmer to take the worst parts of her order and ‘sweep them under a rug where no one could see them‘.

Elden Ring remains a great base game, as testified by Kai Cenat himself, who happened to recently do a marathon run of the game. Following the great reception, it only remained sensible for FromSoftware to now release a DLC more intriguing than ever seen before, also claimed as the largest addition of content the studio has ever done.

The main storyline in itself is often called to be a spiritual successor or even a predecessor to some of the other Soulslike games. While many would expect Shadow of the Erdtree to essentially bring huge changes in how we look at the center storyline, it ultimately will not have any effect on the main game’s ending, as confirmed by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself.
