Elden Ring is a game of limitless possibilities. Fans who have been playing this game for a while would know how pretty much everything is possible in this game if someone puts their mind to it. They can become as powerful as they want to be; heck, they can literally reach god-tier levels of power and never die to even the most powerful of the bosses in this game.

With such a level of customization available, it’s no surprise that people start planning builds inspired by their favorite characters. Some even make themselves look like their favorite bosses. The availability of boss armor and weapons makes it easy, but how does one get a build based on Messmer that is in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC that has yet to launch?

Weapons and Equipment

The one thing that assures that the player character appears as close to Messmer as possible is their set of equipment. Their weapons, their armor, and some skills would make them look similar to him if not as powerful, being as powerful as Messmer would take some time; hence, let’s first focus on what one should wear and equip.

Armor

For the player to look even remotely like Messmer, they would need a set of armor, and the only piece of armor even remotely similar to that of Messmer’s is none other than Drake-Knight Armor.

For those unaware, this armor set can be located in the Crumbling Farum Azula near the Dragon Temple rooftop site of grace. Just grab it and wear it, and don’t worry if you don’t look like the forbidden son of Marika, as the build is not yet complete.

Weapon

His name is not that one word; he has a complete name with a whole subtitle dedicated to him. He is called Messmer the Impaler. The guy is a literal Impaler, and most of the time Impaler uses a weapon that is usually a long pole, which can be used to impale someone.

While some cruel men can even impale someone using a sword, Messmer is a sophisticated god belonging to royalty, he uses a spear. Which is indeed an apt weapon for impaling. There is an obvious lack of his own spear in the base game, so players can go for the Guardian Sword Spear.

There are a couple of reasons to get this weapon. First, this is a spear that would look close to Messmer’s weapon, and second, it would allow players to equip their choice of ash of war with it. Players can equip the storm assault ash of war found in Stormveil Castle for that flying impaling effect.

Shield

The only shield that works for this build is the coil shield that is found on Mount Gilmir. This shield is only needed because it makes a very distinctive snake attack when used.

This would be a substitute for that snake thing that Messmer has on his back.

Character and skills

Now it does not matter what a player’s character looks like underneath, but there are obviously some bonus points for gamers who are actually taking time to make their character look like Messmer too.

Now for skills, players must visit Rennala and respect their skills in such a way that they have at least 55 Dexterity and Faith, as well as Arcane to 30 points.

This would make the players much more effective with their new weapon.

Spells

For spells, players need to make sure they have the remembrance of the fire giant and get themselves the Burn, O Flame! Incantation. This would give the players that fire effect that Messmer makes in the trailer.

One must keep in mind that this spell requires them to have at least 27 faith.

Also, do not forget to pick up Giantsflame Take Thee Incantation from the Church of Vows. This one is also a fire spell that requires 30 faith.

Getting your eyes yellow

Now one must always remember that Messmer might be the holder of death in the forbidden realms, but he is also one of those who used to commune with the dragons. And whenever someone has communed with the dragons in the Lands Between, they get yellow eyes.

Hence players should just go and kill as many dragons as they can and get a hold of their hearts.

Now just slap your favorite talismans on this build and go ahead and beat the living world out of your most hated bosses. You might not be as powerful as Messmer, but you would look like him for sure.

This should get the job by the time Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 20, 2024.
