According to recent reports shared by industry scooper accounts on X, Eternals 2 is steadily approaching its production phase. The user account revealed major details about the potential sequel as they mentioned the release date and even noted Angelina Jolie’s major role in the movie as Thena.
Eternals 2 the Story After the Death of Salma Hayek’s Ajak
Marvel Studios has been gender-swapping roles of superheroes and villains for a long time. One such example is Salma Hayek’s character Ajak in Eternals (2021). According to Marvel comics, Ajak is a man, but in the film, Hayek’s character is described as a feminine and motherly woman.
Although this gender swapping of Ajak was quite risky, audiences were at par with it after watching Salma Hayek deliver a flawless performance. Unfortunately, her role ended with the first installment as Ajak died early, despite being the front and center of the film. This shifted the spotlight on Angelina Jolie’s character, Thena.
Now, as Eternals 2 is making headlines, fans are curious to know how Angelina Jolie will lead the upcoming sequel. Release Date and Angelina Jolie’s Major Role in Eternals 2
Previously, with a lack of updates, fan theories suggested that Angelina Jolie‘s Thena might join the dark side as Eternals’ post-credit scene featured her alongside Eros, who introduced himself as the brother to Thanos. Thereafter, it was believed that Jolie would allegedly team up with Eros for one important task at hand.
However, following the updates from the X account Marvel Updates, it has been clarified that Angelina Jolie’s Thena will become the temporary leader of the Eternals. Since the storyline follows the chronology after the death of Salma Hayek’s Ajak, who was previously in the leading position, Jolie is said to take on that very role.
Further, according to updates, it was also revealed that Eternals 2 will feature The World Forge. According to MCU Fandom, The World Forge is a dark realm, which is the birthplace of Arishem the Judge’s creations, including the Eternals. Arishem initially created Deviants to hunt down all apex predators, but as they started going rogue, Arishem created the Eternals to stop the Deviants.
Thus, it is believed that this storyline might also appear in Eternals 2. Further, the X account noted that the sequel will be more cosmic than the first movie and is set to potentially release in 2027.
