While Timothée Chalamet’s chemistry with Zendaya in Dune: Part Two has had fans rooting for their characters ‘until they breathe’, Chalamet’s best pairing is arguably with Saoirse Ronan. The two actors have played opposite each other in two films by Greta Gerwig, namely Lady Bird and Little Women.
The duo has often claimed that they were best of friends and have shared undeniable chemistry both on and off-screen. Ronan and Chalamet first met on the sets of Lady Bird, which was noted for its coming-of-age themes and nuanced performances from the cast. Chalamet and Ronan were also nominated for Oscars in the same year, though both lost.
What Films Have Timothée Chalamet And Saoirse Ronan Been Together In?
Timothée Chalamet has been worm-riding high on the success of Dune: Part Two. Apart from his dramatic turn to be the messiah of the Fremen, the other highlight of the film is his relationship with Zendaya’s Chani. The couple spend much of the film together, navigating the deserts of Arrakis as Paul Atreides tries to be one with the Fremen.
While Chalamet’s chemistry with Zendaya (and Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha) has sparked many conversations, fans seem to be forgetting the Call Me By Your Name star’s best on-screen pair ever. Dubbed this generation’s ‘Leo and Kate’, Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan have starred in two films together, while also being part of the cast in another film.
Chalamet and Ronan first reportedly met on the sets of Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. Ronan played the eponymous lead in the coming-of-age film and was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for the film. Chalamet played the role of her boyfriend Kyle Scheible, who turns out to be extremely wrong for her.
The two starred again in Gerwig’s sophomore directorial Little Women, in which Saoirse Ronan starred as Jo March while Chalamet featured as Laurie. The film saw Chalamet’s character pining after Ronan’s Jo and the two end up not being together again. The duo also starred in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, although they did not appear together.
Timothée Chalamet And Saoirse Ronan Are Best Friends Off-Screen
Though Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan seem to have impeccable chemistry, the duo are reportedly not an item and are the best of friends. In an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the duo mentioned that they were best friends, with Chalamet chiming in with “We are as close as we can be”. Ronan said,
“We met on Lady Bird and we’ve kind of been together ever since because we ended up doing press together after that.”
The actors mentioned that they felt very comfortable with each other on the sets of their next film together, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Chalamet mentioned that he felt like he was not acting while he was performing with Ronan in the film. The film sees the two characters be extremely close while Chalamet’s Laurie falls in love with her. In an interview with EW, Ronan said,
“He keeps me on my toes — I’m never quite sure what he’s going to do next. That only progressed more and grew more. It helped that we do have a very natural rapport with each other…. These two characters physically need to be very comfortable with one another. They’re literally intertwined for half the film.”
The duo also reportedly almost featured in Greta Gerwig’s third directorial Barbie. However, Timothée Chalamet was reportedly busy at the time filming Wonka while Saoirse Ronan was busy filming The Outrun. Fans were reportedly annoyed at this missed opportunity (via Buzzfeed News).
