Gamescom 2024 Predictions – From Resident Evil to Iron Man and Everything In Between

Gamescom 2024 is almost upon us and it is a truly exciting time for gaming fans. If even half of these predictions come true, we are in for an amazing event.

This year’s event in Cologne will mark the first Gamescom that has taken place since the official demise of E3. After the Summer Games Fest in June was something of a disappointment, Gamescom has a clear run to give us all of the exciting announcements that we have been craving after plodding though a fairly unremarkable year in terms of major game releases.

Fingers crossed that 2025 will be a more stacked year than 2024 was, and Gamescom 2024 could be the perfect time to make drop those up and coming reveals. With only have a couple of days left to wait before the event kicks off, let’s get on with our predictions for Gamescom 2024 Fest courtesy of the FandomWire Gaming staff:

A Trailer for a New Splinter Cell Is Shown By Ubisoft

I will die on this hill. With every major event that comes around, I hope against hope that we will finally get a proper look at the next Splinter Cell game. It is such an iconic series that deserves better than being lost to the annals of time. With Metal Gear Solid Delta also on the way, now seems like an ideal time for a proper renaissance of the stealth/action genre and Gamescom 2024 seems like the perfect place to kick that off.

Dying Light 3 Will Be Announced

Following a recent leak, this one appearing at Gamescom 2024 seems likely. Hopefully Techland will be able to show off exactly why this new title is worth getting excited for, as many fans of the original zombie-killing parkour title were disappointed by the second game. Let’s just hope that graphically, it looks as good as Dead Island 2 did.

Starfield Shattered Space Release Date

Since the trailer for the Starfield expansion Shattered Space dropped during the Xbox Showcase back in June, fans have been clamouring to learn exactly when they can play the game for themselves. Gamescom 2024 seems like the perfect time to capitalize on that hype by dropping the release date along with a new trailer.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Expansion

Now that Elden Ring is done and dusted, FromSoftware has likely moved on to its next project. Queue the mech-based Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, a title whose war-torn world begs to be revisited nearly a year after its initial launch. After witnessing the success of Shadow of the Erdtree, it would make sense for the studio to keep the momentum going with the announcement of another DLC at Gamescom 2024.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 Announced

While I believe that a Ghost of Tsushima 2 reveal is more likely to happen during the rumored PlayStation Showcase later this year, minds would be blown if it was to appear at Gamescom 2024. Sucker Punch’s silence over the past few years has been deafening and fans are desperate to learn what the future holds for this series.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Trailer Shown

It is quite hard to believe that this sprawling, elusive project initially began life as additional content for the original game before being expanded into a proper sequel. After fans were left extremely disappointed after the Summer Games Fest came and went with no sign of Hollow Knight: Silksong, many feel that Gamescom 2024 would be the perfect time to show it off.

Resident Evil 9 Will Be Revealed

Although fans have been clamouring to hear more about the remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica that is rumored to be in development at Capcom, it would make more sense for us to see news on Resident Evil 9 at Gamescom 2024. This is due to the fact that the previous RE project was the RE4 remake, so a new series entry is due.

Sonic x Shadow Generations Trailer Shown

Given that we already have a release date for this title of October 25 2024, it would make sense for SEGA to use this opportunity to get as many eyes on this new Sonic game as possible. Perhaps a demo will even be announced at Gamescom 2024 that Sonic fans can download and play immediately in order to really hype up the game.

Death Stranding 2 Gameplay Shown

Although we have had a handful of cinematic trailers for Hideo Kojima’s next mind-bending adventure, we haven’t really saw any gameplay outside of a quick montage in the previous trailer. It would be nice to see the new systems that Kojima Productions is implementing into this sequel at Gamescom 2024 and whether the general mechanics will be the same as the first game.

New Battlefield Game Revealed

Battlefield as a franchise is somewhat up in the air following the lackluster release of Battlefield 2042. Long time fans are hoping to see a potential return to the Bad Company days, hoping for a soft reboot like what Call of Duty did with Modern Warfare in 2019. Personally, I’d love to see an emphasis on a solid single player campaign, though I may be in the minority on that.

Dune Awakening Release Date Announced

Officially, this long in development title is set to launch before the end of 2024, although with the end of the year quickly approaching and no release date being given as of the time of writing, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the title slip into 2025. Perhaps if some gameplay is shown along with a specific release date for next year, Dune fans will be placated.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Release Date Announced

Again, just like Dune Awakening, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is apparently due to release before the end of 2024. As of Gamescom 2024, we will be halfway through August, not leaving too much room before the end of the year. If we are still getting the game this year, then now seems like the perfect time to provide an exact release date.

The Witcher 4 Trailer Shown

Throwing together a CG trailer for the next Witcher game seems like it would be an easy win for CD Projekt Red, but after the development hell that Cyberpunk: 2077 was stuck in for so long, maybe the team is worried to announce it too early. Still though, now seems like an ideal time to announce a new sequel and maybe also start building some hype for the in-development remake of the first Witcher game.

2K Will Show a Trailer for FIFA 25

Ever since the FIFA rights slipped out of EA’s hands and into the open arms of 2K, fans of the virtual football simulator have been dying to see what the future holds for the iconic series. People like myself who stopped buying FIFA years ago due to it being essentially the same game re-released every year are hoping to see some significant advancements that make everyone sit up and take notice again.

Marvel Rivals Release Date Announced

Both NetEase Games and Geoff Keighley have confirmed that Marvel Rivals will make an appearance at Gamescom 2024. On Twitter, we have been teased with receiving feature updates and surprises about the upcoming 6v6 superhero shooter. Hopefully one of these surprises is a release date for the game and it isn’t too far away!

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Gameplay Will be Shown

When Amy Hennig’s Captain America/Black Panther game was last shown off at GDC 2024, we got an incredible trailer that showed off the incredible fidelity of the game running in Unreal Engine 5. It was also explained that these cutscenes were being rendered in real-time, thus many are dying to see how the moment-to-moment gameplay of this title will look. Hopefully we will find out at Gamescom 2024.

Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date Announced

Since we last saw it during Sony’s State of Play stream back in May, fans of the Monster Hunter series have been dying to see more from the upcoming entry. At the time of writing, we have seen a fair amount of gameplay for the title, but no release date has been given beyond 2025. Gamescom 2024 seems like the perfect time for Capcom to provide a specific date.

Red Dead Redemption PC Officially Announced

After it was leaked earlier this week, (on the PSN store of all places,) fans of Red Dead Redemption have been dying to know if the iconic cowboy title is finally coming to PC at long last. Many gamers may not even realise that the first Red Dead Redemption game has never been officially available to play on PC. If Rockstar does announce anything at Gamescom 2024, it is more likely to be this as opposed to a second GTA 6 trailer.

EA Motive Show the First Iron Man Trailer

Other than a teaser image that was put out two years ago, we have saw absolutely nothing from the Iron Man game being worked on by Dead Space’s developers. Other than a few vague technical aspects regarding its use of Unreal Engine 5, we really don’t know much about what to expect from this title. Gamescom 2024 would be a great place to show off the first proper trailer for the game.

Soul Reaver Remaster Is Officially Announced With a Trailer

This project has been rumored for years at this point and at SDCC 2024, a statue of Raziel and Kain was spotted labelled, “Soul Reaver: I & II Remastered.” Given that the original game is 25 years old, fans of the classic series are hoping to see a pretty huge overhaul of the two games if we aren’t getting a ground-up remake.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Gameplay Deep Dive

With the release date for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 coming around soon, now seems like a perfect time to show off the gameplay systems of the title in a long-form video. Given that the original Space Marine game was released more than a decade ago, this sequel is expected to introduce a plethora of brand new features for players.

Final Fantasy IX Remake Officially Announced

Spanning all the way back to the infamous Nvidia leak of 2021, an official announcement of this remake from Square Enix has been expected for a long time. Could Gamescom 2024 be the moment to finally give Final Fantasy fans the announcement that they have been craving for so long? It would certainly make for a pretty huge reveal.

Black Ops 6 Gameplay Trailer Shown

This has got to be the most likely prediction on our list. It is August, the next Call of Duty Black Ops game is set to launch in October, and thus a gameplay trailer makes sense. Hopefully we will get a good look at any new multiplayer features being introduced along with a look at a story mission. Getting to see new Warzone content and anything related to Zombies would also be cool.

Dragon Age The Veilguard Gameplay Shown

Now that we have been given an official release date for the game which is unexpectedly close, getting to see more of the title’s gameplay systems would make a lot of sense. The initial impressions of the game’s aesthetics have been pretty negative, so the best way to win potential fans around would be to show off some dynamic looking gameplay that looks fun to play.

SEGA Shows Trailers for Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Golden Axe and Potentially Gives Release Dates

After hearing the news that the Crazy Taxi reboot is going to be a ‘large-scale, open-world online game,’ fans of the classic arcade racer have been dying to see more. The same thing goes for new iterations of classic titles like Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe, which are also confirmed to be in development, exciting gamers of a certain generation.

Batman: Arkham Shadow Gameplay Trailer Shown

Given that the game is slated for a Fall 2024 release, it would make a lot of sense to get more content from this upcoming Meta Quest exclusive. Some VR representation at Gamescom 2024 would also be welcome. Given that fans of the Arkham series are pretty down about this new entry being created without the late, great Kevin Conroy or Rocksteady, this could be the ideal opportunity to win them round.

Larian Studios’ Next Game Will Be Revealed

Despite the insane level of success that Baldur’s Gate 3 has enjoyed since its release last year, Larian Studios has confirmed that it has no plans currently to being development on a sequel. With that being said though, they are working on something and Gamescom 2024 seems like the perfect time to unveil it. Hopefully, it will be some interesting new IP, rather than a sequel to another series.

What predictions do you have for Gamescom 2024?

And that is all of our predictions. What did you think of our picks? Are you looking to this year’s Gamescom?
