It is indisputable that the Netflix series Iron Fist, starring Finn Jones on Netflix, struggled to garner favorable reviews. Scott Buck’s series has a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, with a 71% favorability rating, it somehow garnered slightly higher respect from the review aggregator’s audience.
Its cancellation in 2018 was a further letdown. Since then, fans of the character have expressed a keen interest in seeing Jones reprise his role as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite years after the show and its lackluster reception, there is a growing call for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to give Jones “another chance” to play the iconic martial arts hero on the big screen.
For the unversed, based on the comic book character created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Iron Fist was the fourth Marvel series.
The Potential Return of Finn Jones as Iron Fist?
Finn Jones appeared unwilling to give up on Netflix’s Iron Fist even after the show was canceled after two seasons in 2018. In a 2022 interview with Geekscape, the actor, 36, expressed interest in portraying Iron Fist, the martial artist Danny Rand, if Disney+ chooses to bring him back into the MCU.
“I’d love another chance. I care about Danny Rand deeply, I believe in that character, I think there’s a lot of work to be done. There’s something about the underdog, y’know? I love the underdog narrative.”
Even more recently, Finn shared a picture of a travel bag containing a copy of The NeverEnding Story (which may be another subtle hint) along with a Power Man and Iron Fist comic (via Instagram Story). The comic appears to be in an acrylic collector’s display case, so it is obvious that he does not intend to read it. If there is a trip that Jones is planning, is it to the filming location of Daredevil: Born Again?
Thanks to his appearance in several series as Marvel’s Iron Fist, fans are familiar with Finn Jones as the superhero. The actor portrayed Danny Rand / Iron Fist on the Netflix series Luke Cage, The Defenders, and Iron Fist. Critics have not given Iron Fist a kind review, nevertheless. The first season, consisting of 13 episodes, hovers around 37 out of 100 on Metacritic.
Marvel Fans Want Marvel Studios To Bring Back Finn Jones As Iron Fist
When Iron Fist first made its debut on Netflix in 2017, it quickly established itself as the black sheep of the Marvel-Netflix collaboration. Rotten Tomatoes shows how poorly both fans and critics regarded the series. Finn Jones, who played the lead role of Danny Rand, received criticism for his performance, with many critics believing he was miscast in the role.
However, some fans are still holding out hope that Iron Fist will make a comeback, particularly in light of the recent announcement that characters from the Netflix Marvel series will be part of the MCU (see The Verge). Many people are calling for Kevin Feige to recast Jones in the role, believing that he has the potential to redeem himself and can deliver a much better portrayal of the character.

Bro deserves a second chance! They should just make a Heroes For Hire show with Mike Coulter back as well.
Jones' Iron Fist was best when those 2 were paired up. And that seems to be what is being teased here!! pic.twitter.com/Xqs4vAKMEi

Even though Iron Fist has been panned with a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and with a truckload of criticism, Jones has managed to shine, as the series has primarily drawn younger audiences (per THR).
Well, whether or not Feige will listen to fans’ suggestions remains to be seen. Finn Jones may have stumbled with the Netflix show, but with the right opportunity at hand, he could reach new heights as Iron Fist in the MCU.
