God of War has been one of PlayStation’s heavy hitters and powerful franchises for quite some time. The series received a significant overhaul in the form of a soft reboot in 2018 thanks to director Cory Barlog and made one of the greatest games of all time, but Barlog is now ready to move on with a brand new IP set outside the godly Pantheons and realms that Kratos vanquished.

Barlog is notorious for his cheerful and mischievous acts on social media and often casually drops hints and teases for his projects. His latest act caught the attention of fans which could be a hint to his newest project.

While details are nonexistent at this point, it is an open secret that Santa Monica Studios was working on a brand new IP that was later canceled and the studio shifted its focus to the reboot of God of War in 2018. Perhaps Barlog is reviving the project or utilizing old ideas and concepts towards the creation of another, the director did share his enthusiasm and optimism about the work he and the studios are making and holds the talent in high regard.

Recent leaks have indicated that more than one project related to the popular series is in active development, some are being developed within Santa Monica Studios, while different studios are handling others. There is a high possibility for remakes and remasters as well as spinoff titles being in the works.
On the other hand, fans did not waste time and came up with bizarre and far-fetched theories about the mysterious spaceman being Kratos and that this project is a sequel or a spinoff to the God of War franchise. It is unwise to dismiss the idea that the franchise has reached its end, especially with the ending of the latest Valhalla DLC opening more doors for a sequel and the inevitable spinoff adventure of Atreus.

Sony bets on winners and that is the reason why the company had so much fate in what Cory Barlog and Santa Monica Studios are capable of. Every major first-party exclusive was paired off and fans were able to cast their vote for the ultimate PlayStation game and to no one’s surprise, God of War: Ragnarok reigned victorious.
The prospect of creating a brand-new intellectual property can be a daunting undertaking, but with Barlog at the helm, there is little reason to worry. His vast experience and expertise in the field make him more than capable of crafting another compelling title that could potentially match or even surpass the level of greatness that God of War has achieved.
Kratos is a PlayStation mascot that Cory Barlog helped shape, and his contributions to God of War made it the franchise it is today. Whether his next project is a sequel a spinoff or a new IP entirely, whatever the director is working on will be another masterpiece.
