Satoru Gojo, the strongest mortal Jujutsu sorcerer, is often portrayed as flippant. He does what he wants, whenever he wants, and is not scared to toss his students in the face of danger when he believes they are ready. More than half of Jujutsu Kaisen fans depend on Gojo and so does everyone in the anime/manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen has never created a love interest for Gojo and nor has he ever been interested in anyone. Yes, he is a strong sorcerer who does not have any lovey-dovey time. But is his busy-ness really an excuse for never liking anyone?
Gojo Does Not Want to Make the Same Mistake as Yuta
Gojo might look careless and distant from emotions, but what if he had to culminate the feature by himself? Humans are doomed to be social creatures, to love and care for others, and Gojo is no exception to it. Gojo desperately tries not to attach himself to anyone so he can avoid the backlash it causes.
The supreme example of how love can prove to be fatal is Yuta and Rika. When Yuta talked to Gojo about how he could have been the one to curse Rika and not the other way around, Gojo said:
I’ve always believed love manifests the most distorted curses.
This belief seems to come from Gojo’s own observations and could be why he refuses to engage in any extreme emotion. Being attached to someone, be it romantically or platonically, makes people vulnerable. Gojo, being one of the strongest sorcerors, cannot afford to be vulnerable.
Witnessing a loved one getting hurt is a distressing moment for everyone, which is bound to make them unstable. For a normal person, it can mean depression, a manic episode, or, in extreme cases, vengeance. But Gojo, being extraordinarily strong, could commit unbound destruction with his powers if he ever reached a state of instability.
Gojo could even end up creating a curse, like Yuta. If Yuta, as a child, could create the Queen of Curses, Gojo’s emotions might end up creating the most destructive cursed spirit to ever exist.
Gojo’s Affection Towards His Students Made Him Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Itachi
Gojo liked Yuji from the beginning, be it the boy’s extraordinary bravado, stupidity, or physical endurance. He was also clearly attached to his students and took a silent oath to protect the younglings.
He protected Yuji from execution at the very beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen. Everyone who has read or watched the series knows that Gojo does not think twice before sacrificing anyone to defeat a curse. He is a menace to society, law, and order. So why does he stop at Yuji?
Gojo wanted to go as far as to kill the higher-ups. He hated the geezers and wanted them removed. All of this points towards an extreme similarity with one other tragic character who was doomed because of his love and sense of moral justice, Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi wanted to preserve peace and thus destroyed his own clan with the exception of Sasuke. He did so by strengthening his mind against all the nostalgia with which he grew up. Gojo does something similar by blocking off all his emotions so as not to be pushed to a dangerous extent.
However, Gojo could not stop himself from becoming a monster, just like Itachi. After his death, Yuta took over his body to defeat Sukuna. Gojo got turned into a weapon, snatching away his humanity. The worst part is that he would have consented to the decision as well.
Gojo had suspected that loving anyone would lead to chaos, and it did as he died to protect the ones he loved.
