GTA 6‘s trailer is finally out after much anticipation from gamers. The trailer is the longest compared to the GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 trailers. The trailer provided much information about the game and a few details that would probably be missed unless examined closely.
Fans also learned that the leaks regarding the game featuring the series’ first-ever voiced and characterized female protagonist were accurate, as they saw Lucia in action in the trailer. They also got a few glimpses of an individual who is Lucia’s partner, rumored to be named Jason. There were also leaks.
They also learned about the game’s setting, perhaps one of the most important details about a GTA game. The game is confirmed to be set in the fictional state of Leonida, which will most likely be modeled after the state of Florida in the United States. The map for GTA 6 also had some details leaked about it and looks much more vast, grand, and detailed than GTA 5.
Leonida: All We Know About the State That Will Bring GTA 6 to Life
We know that the latest game in Rockstar’s GTA franchise will see a return to Vice City, the primary location for the fourth entry in the GTA series. A glimpse of the game’s trailer shows a shot of the islands, which will most likely be featured as parts of the map in the game. We also see a bridge connecting these various islands.
But the most concrete revelation comes from Rockstar, officially. Leonida is the confirmed setting for GTA 6 from Take-Two’s official press release published on its website.
Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.
This confirms that though Vice City will be one of the primary regions that will be accessible in the game, we will most likely get a chance to explore other parts of the state of Leonida as well. This will make for an even bigger map than any of the prior installments in the GTA franchise. The primary location for the game (Vice City) was seemingly confirmed when Rockstar revealed in an X post that the trailer would be coming out on December 5.
The pink background gradient and silhouettes of palm trees on the sides were enough to signal to returning fans that Vice City would be making a return. After Tommy Vercetti’s adventures in GTA: Vice City, it was finally time for Lucia and Jason to take the city by storm.
While an entire schematic of the GTA 6 map is not confirmed yet, the map reportedly encompasses three major cities and four sub-cities, as revealed by another significant leak. It is unclear which real-life cities apart from Miami will be included, but there is plenty of time for more reveals as the game is at least a year away. We also see a snapshot in the trailer at the 31st second, almost identical to Biscayne Island in Miami, Florida.
Other aerial shots also show off the Florida Keys connecting various parts of the city and a freeway to VCI Airport, most likely Miami International Airport. In GTA 5, one of the missions saw us take a flight straight to North Yankton, and while this was only a one-time visit, no other cities apart from Los Santos and other neighboring cities could be visited in the game.
GTA 6 might change that and let us explore the rest of Leonida or even other states, opening avenues for other characters from the previous games to appear.
GTA 6 has a tentative release date of 2025 and will only come to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 at launch.
