With the massive success of the Invincible TV series, Skybound Entertainment has decided to expand into the gaming industry as they plan to release a AAA game based on the iconic comics and TV series. Despite being one of the most popular franchises in the world, Skybound is still relying on crowdfunding for the Invincible video game.

Skybound has set up an investment opportunity for the fans on the Republic investment platform, allowing people to invest a minimum of $100 into the game. They have already raised $18 million from everyday investors and fans through Republic/Seedrs, so why do they need crowdfunding again? The strange part of this investment is that people who invest will not even get equity in the company as Skybound has the right to decide in the future if they want to provide investors with equity.

Skybound Entertainment is now providing fans with an opportunity to invest in an AAA game based on the Invincible franchise on the Republic investment platform. Skybound has stated that they are “developing a highly produced, high-octane blood bath that is anything but indie” with “more than 30 gaming industry veterans.” They have stated that they have already raised $18 million from everyday investors and fans through Republic/Seedrs and are now looking for crowdfunding again. The initial funding goal was $50,000 but the campaign has already raised more than $445,000.

With a minimum investment of $100, investors will get a “Crowd SAFE holding” and “10,000 Skybound Insider points,” which can be used in Skybound’s Insider loyalty program on things like digital comics and in-game rewards. As per the definition on the Republic website, Crowd SAFE holding is an investment contract between investors and companies and individuals make investments for the chance to earn a return, which can be in the form of equity in the company or a cash payout but only if the company is acquired, goes public, or sells all of its assets.

Skybound Entertainment has clearly stated in its campaign that they have access to two of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world: The Walking Dead and Invincible, so why does it need crowdfunding? As per Publishers Weekly, Skybound executives say the total value of the company, according to a pre-offering analysis, is about $500 million. The company also showcased its previous works on its Republic page.

Invincible is one of the best-rated and popular shows in the world so any high-valued company would love to invest in this video game project but it appears like Skybound is trying to keep the production in-house. More information regarding their planned Invincible game will be released as soon as they hit their funding goals.
