Looks like Automatons in Helldivers 2 can talk, and they are pretty sad.

Compassion for the enemy is treason but goddamn”: Helldivers 2 Fans Commit Treason – Here’s What an Automaton’s Final Thoughts Sound Like Before Being Killed by Democracy

SUMMARY

  • Helldivers 2 represents a massive war being fought between Super Earth and a bunch of enemy factions.
  • Players are taught in the game to not have any sympathy against their enemies.
  • However, a recent discovery is making that commitment very hard for them to uphold.

Games usually give players an enemy to target, and they do so without giving those orders a second thought. Those enemies can be anything, a bunch of insects, an army of massive robots, or anything else; players just have to kill them. That’s exactly what happens in Helldivers 2. Players are given a task, and they are asked to take care of it.

Sometimes they are liberating a planet; other times they are taking down an establishment. The missions get done, players earn their rewards, and Super Earth gets a step closer to winning the galactic war. But what of those that were destroyed? Enemies that no one gave a second thought to? A recent revelation suggests that they have more depth than players would have thought.

A new audio log suggests Helldivers 2’s automatons are more human than players realized!

Years ago, a PlayStation exclusive, The Last of Us, was launched. That game gave players every reason to love the world that they live in; its heartfelt story was something else. A person who has lost everything in life meets another person who has lost everything, and they decide to stay together.

A father finds a daughter, and a girl finds a family. It was a very touching story that was told through a very bloody lens. A number of people die, and at one point, the whole society is asked to just take a hike. The two protagonists still get a happy ending though.

Its sequel gave players a shock when the consequences of their actions came back to bite them. That game teaches players that even in games, every NPC has a life, and every bullet hurts more than just the person who dies.

Helldivers 2 is not that kind of game; it does not have a heartfelt story to tell. All it has is a bunch of enemy factions, a number of weapons, and a war. In this war, players have to win; they have to make sure every single one of their enemies is destroyed and every stronghold is liberated.

As a result of these stronghanded attempts, players recently destroyed a whole faction. They were a bunch of robots that came in all shapes and sizes. They fired rockets, and crushed players under their feet; they were relentless. The players took a collective sigh of relief when they were taken care of.

But this successful milestone recently took a very dark turn whengamers found something unusual. A head of an automaton was recovered, and an audio file was uncovered in it. In this audio, this automaton talks about how it wishes to feel things around it, smell, and taste.

This really hit the community hard; they never saw this coming. An automaton that wants to feel things? Are they AI? Or maybe they are really people whose consciousness is stuck inside robots, and never get a chance to experience a better life?

Whatever that was, it has left a massive pain in the hearts of most Helldivers 2 gamers out there.

Helldivers 2 fans are blown away by this discovery.

Players all over cannot believe what they are hearing. This one audio file has filled the whole community with mixed feelings. Some feel remorse, others regret. And all of them have let their feelings known.

cezar5802- Guys…. I am not saying…. I am no traitor to Super Earth and democracy but….. what if…. we’re the baddies?

perpendicular_platypus- I’m a traitor to Super Earth, im sorry but I have empathy

automaton.commissar- Rest in peace, fellow Automaton… you will never be forgotten my brother

It’s an incredible way the developer, Arrowhead Game Studios, inserted a small piece of audio and enhanced the lore of their game. It would be exciting to see where they take this newfound idea.
