Helldivers 2 has a variety of weapons and loadout options to choose from. While some players prefer having gear that improves mobility, others like to be the one-man army they were destined for. In the middle of all the exciting combat and liberty the game aims to deliver, there’s a new concept in conversations that players would like to see.
Recently, players have been sharing ideas about implementing a new kind of gun in the game. As cool as this may seem on paper, the CEO may just not be as excited about it. After all, the devs probably know better than the rest how complicated things get when trying out new mechanics after a game comes out.
Players Have Been Quite Creative Lately With This New Idea
Social media platforms like Reddit and X have been quite welcoming of some new ideas for the game’s creative potential. And, out of these, one idea has given the community something to put its thinking caps on. What if Helldivers 2 had a minigun you could just pick up and carry around, blasting through hordes of enemies?
User Armroker even showed off a real-life prototype of the same, to which the community has been going nothing short of insane. Seriously, how come there’s no minigun in the game so far? Yes, the machine guns are equally deadly, but imagine having a carriable powerhouse of close to unlimited ammo as you spread democracy across the planet.
Well, the answer to this is exactly what some of you must have thought. The CEO and one of the creative minds behind Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, described how it takes an intense amount of work and coding to get even the basic mechanics to work flawlessly in the game. Add to that the pain of bringing in all new mechanics to the mix.
Helldivers 2’s Existing Weapons and Other Mechanics Already Have a Lot of Potential
Whether or not we actually see a minigun in the game, the truth about Helldivers 2’s gameplay and its citizens stays constant; the variety of loadouts makes different playthroughs quite versatile and open to experimentation.
Even if you decide to play on a planet that’s a little familiar to you and the squad, there’s a likelihood that you won’t be prepared for the terrain and weather effects. These things are subtle randomizations sometimes, but they can completely change the dynamics of how things work.
Even if something like a minigun was a viable option in Helldivers 2, the fact remains that it’s going to be heavy and problematic to move around when all you have to do is run, dive, and hope for the best. Yeah, think about all the times you had to quit your so-called strategies.
