New Helldivers 2 Petition Actually has a Chance to Succeed, and Unlike the Xbox One, There’s a Chance This’ll Succeed with the Will of the People

Helldivers 2 allows players some degree of customization to help further personalize their experience. Armor, capes, emotes, and banners allow individual Helldivers to showcase their unique loadout. It also allows you to share your look with the community.

While there are a great deal of customization options, one aspect of your Helldivers 2 experience is limited by the developer: naming your ship. The tutorial shows you how to do this, but the process itself is lacking in freedom. Well, a demand from the community may soon change that.

Petitions are largely regarded as having little to no effect when it comes to demands being met. Thousands are floating around the internet at any given moment, and each is more serious than the next. Even in gaming, fans turn to this method to ask developers to add or change things in a game.

There is already a petition going about to get Helldivers 2 onto Xbox consoles. The Sony Interactive Exclusive title is available only on PlayStation and PC. The viability of this petition is very low, as it requires much deliberation between two competing companies to ensure it works out.

However, a new ‘petition’ may be put into effect as it is an entirely internal matter. The request comes from Reddit user xixouma, who posted on the Helldivers 2 forum. They ask to include the phrase “frend of” in the ship naming selections. Currently, the only way to name your ship is to choose pre-determined words to create a name in the ‘X of Y’ format.

The ask comes with an attached screenshot of an in-game chat between a player named Tolga and another named dremskiy. On being told dremskiy would be kicked as the team was playing friends only, the soon-to-be evicted participant appealed, saying he too is a friend. By naming their ship “Frend of…”, their intentions to become friends and fight for Super Earth together may be clear.

Arrowhead Game Studios Could Include This Feature to Pacify Fans

It's been a rocky time for Arrowhead Game Studios.
It’s been a rocky time for Arrowhead Game Studios.

It’s safe to say the past few weeks have been a rollercoaster for the developers of the game. The account linking fiasco not only greatly affected all the goodwill the team had accumulated, but it also had a direct impact on the concurrent player number. It’s only now that the game is being relisted in countries without PSN, so there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Accepting small demands such as this as a way to rebuild trust and relationships with the community would be a good start. It doesn’t have to be this specific demand, but fixing the small issues and glitches that have been plaguing the game for a while now will result in a better overall gameplay experience.

The developers are aware of all the issues in the game, but the difficulty is in resolving them while managing new content. Warbonds have to be delivered every month to ensure monetization is a continuous process, so the team needs to decide where the resources are most needed.
