Helldivers 2 has set the gold standard for what a live service game experience should be. Arrowhead Game Studios gave the gaming community a rare treat of experiencing intergalactic warfare while also having fun, and players have come up with ways to make it better.
Teamwork makes the dream work but there is only so much the players can do to make it entertaining. The stratagems offer a great reprieve for a squad but there is a way to make it more engaging by giving players more options to do damage in the field.
Helldivers 2 Players Hope to Ride the Mech
There was a time when the Mechs were once the coolest stratagems to use in the field, but the community has lost interest in using them. The impressive destructive capabilities are not enough to compensate for its weaker build and the players ultimately abandoned the stratagem.
Fortunately, the creativity of the community could redeem the Mechs. Some fans suggested that rather than controlling these machines from within, there should be an option where players can hop on and ride it into battle.
It is a great idea to unleash hellfire over the hostile forces if the Mech is only equipped with rockets. For example, the teammate riding above could do more damage with a different weapon. Another suggestion that would revolutionize the stratagem is if the developers gave the players the option to swap out the weapons on each limb.
Director Johan Pilestedt knew he could always count on the creativity of the gaming community. It is a rare sight to behold where game developers are actively in constant communication with the community and take both insight and feedback on how to improve the game as they see fit.
The Players Are Not Ready to Give Up on Helldivers 2
The PSN controversy seemingly greatly affected Arrowhead and Sony’s reputation, which in turn affected the quality of the game. Players have taken notice of this.
The game has a solid foundation with the community and is reaping the benefits from it. Some players threatened to quit playing since the game is no longer giving the same level of entertainment and satisfaction it did in the earlier days, but there are some who are doing their part to keep it afloat.
Pilestedt would engage with the players on social media, which is the perfect place to take notes for new ideas on how to spice up the gameplay. One player came up with a suggestion for a multi-directional eagle strike stratagem where players would manually highlight or ping the target area for the payload, which would make it more tense and immersive.
The developers have encountered a roadblock but is far from over. The team will bounce back and this new suggestion to ride the Mech could be fully realized in the future.
