After the revelation of the ‘Master of Puppets’ in Helldivers 2, Game Master Joel has become quite a star on the internet. More like a meme-star. Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt revealed in an interview that there is actually a person sitting behind the scenes controlling the game’s narrative as players advance.

Before the Game Master came into the light, players were already taken aback as their beloved planet Malevelon Creek whom they were calling “space Vietnam” was conquered by Automatons. However, it was no coincidence as it too was a ‘part of the great plan’. To this, players have taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) sharing memes, and expressing emotions following the event.

X is practically filled with Joel-focused memes, some of which are hilarious. A user called 𝕏ANDER shared a GIF showcasing Thanos’ from Marvel Cinematic Universe and wrote, “Joel when his alarm rings to notify him we’ve finally taken 15% of Malevelon Creek.” Appears like he is also an MCU fan as he shared a similar post expressing what Joel could do if the players reach close to conquering the planet.

Appears like real life faction is rising against the Game Master. Users were shocked to know that Joel knowingly sent the players to die on the planet full of Automatons. “This won’t be forgotten Joel,” SirDeki wrote.

A post presented Joel as a bully to players. The post containing GIF showcases Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 3 scene that gave him the title of Bully Maguire where he says to James Franco’s character, “Gonna Cry“. “Live video of Master. Joel sprinkling some salt at Malevelon Creek!!!,” User Entity wrote to add some taste to the situation.”

It is Time For Extra Caution For Helldivers

Helldivers 2 is among the biggest entries of the year with players being eager beavers to play the game. Given the demand, developers had to raise their server capacity to 800K players. It has become so popular that users have signed a petition to bring the PlayStation and PC game to Xbox.

Moreover, it is going to become more interesting as some recent videos surfaced on the internet showcasing Mechs, sort of juggernaut suits from Call of Duty but enhanced, and a bit different in shape too. A lot of interesting content, it seems, is on the way and the Game Master Joel is likely to be overlooking that.

Pilestedt said that there are things they would like to keep secret “as a part of the roadmap.” Nonetheless, whatever will happen, players now know that the Game Master is controlling things and would want them to be prepared for anything that may come as they progress.
