As if bugs and Automatons weren’t challenging enough, Arrowhead is adding a bunch more elements to the game that could steamroll players if they’re not careful enough.

Helldivers 2 will be adding a ton of new content for players to enjoy, which includes new mission types, laser-based guns, mechs, cars and buggies, and an AI squad with super earth soldiers to strengthen the defense. Aside from these exciting additions, two elements caught players’ eyes: the game will also be adding a new faction from the previous game and new flying enemy types.

Helldivers 2 players quickly chimed in to guess that the new faction being added was the Illuminates, and they are nothing to scoff at. The OP on X further elaborated in the replies, and their explanation has everyone shaking in their boots.

According to OP, the new enemies can invert players’ control and teleport players and enemies—everyone is fair game. This spells a bunch of troubles for the forces of democracy, and mechs are starting to sound more and more necessary as we start to encounter tougher enemies like these.

One player shared some important information about the Illuminates faction that just adds to the difficulty:

Yeah, Illuminates have a unit that has limited mind control abilities. They could do that in the first game. If they mind link a player they invert their control scheme until they are killed or out of range.

Lucky for players, mechs are a great defense against the Illuminates’ abilities. The mech, faction, and enemy types updates may be arriving at once. With the new barrage of challenges on the way, PS5 and PC need Xbox players now more than ever.

Arrowhead might want to increase the server cap once again right before the new update drops.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any information available on when we might be able to pilot a new mech against the Illuminates faction. Speculation arose that mechs were supposed to come out during the game’s launch, but due to errors with syncing, plans were quickly changed.

Thankfully, until the new update, the game is plenty full of challenging enemies that’ll keep players busy.
