With Hugh Jackman rapidly reaching the end of the line, there isn’t an easy way to say this but – it is finally time. The fandom has already had a practice run at bidding the legend adieu via the heartfelt tribute and worthy farewell, Logan. But this time around, the actor crosses worlds and the expansive multiverse to bring Wolverine back to us one last time.

Deadpool 3 being a definitive mile marker for both Ryan Reynolds and his Aussie frenemy, it is bound to set a legacy to remember. But every legacy finds itself faced with a multitude of admirers who wish to follow in the footsteps of those who came before them. And so too does the Wolverine actor find himself at crossroads – where he still remains a living representation of the clawed mutant and yet people look toward a future where Hugh Jackman’s name is no longer synonymous with Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman Reacts to Taron Egerton Wolverine Rumors

Stepping down after carrying out one’s true calling and letting go of the child that he bore from the beginning of the century well into the modern era of CBM popularity might not be particularly easy. But Hugh Jackman did it with Logan. It was a fitting end to a fulfilling career and a worthy farewell to a well-lived character.

Even then, it must hurt to know that beyond oneself, there exists a queue of candidates ready to take up the mantle at a moment’s notice. So, when faced with the reality outside the industry walls where the fandom has already begun murmuring about an heir to the throne (of sorts), Jackman had a word or two to say about the matter:

“Taron [Egerton] is one of the most talented actors out there. And you can see his range is incredible. But he’s just got to cool his heels a little bit.”

The matter of fan casting Taron Egerton as Wolverine began when the actor claimed that he met with the people at Marvel but then the rumors got kind of spun and twisted into this thing.” The actor briefly attempted to contain the rumors from snowballing any further by saying:

“I don’t know if I’m the right guy to play that part… I don’t know if I would be the right person to follow [Hugh Jackman]. But I’ve always said I would be open to it.”

As of now, no potential names are swirling around near the gates of Marvel regarding who gets to play the MCU’s Earth-616 variant of the X-Men character.

Can Taron Egerton Be a Worthy Wolverine Successor?

For quite some time now, the Marvel x Foxverse fandom has been left without a leader and as such, the lawlessness of a world without Wolverine has caught up to the fans. Those with a keen eye then immediately turned toward the vast roster of actors available to take up the mantle left behind by Hugh Jackman when he retired as Wolverine in 2017. The timing and co-incidence of Taron Egerton’s entry into this scene couldn’t have been better planned when the 33-year-old Welsh actor’s name started cropping up in popular circles.

Taron Egerton’s role in the public eye soon began to fit into the picture perfectly like the final puzzle piece of the jigsaw. He is a talented actor with critical blockbuster successes to his name (like Kingsman and Rocketman), who also happened to somewhat look like a younger version of Jackman, and had a wonderful repartee with the X-Men actor himself after the pair co-starred in Eddie the Eagle. To finish off the three-tiered cake with a cherry on top – Egerton made the news of his meeting with Marvel to discuss a potential role public via The NY Times.

The opportunity then pushed itself into the public eye in an era that allows wonderful dreams to come true via fan-casting. John Krasinski has already made his way onto the big screens and it may not seem like a far-fetched possibility to imagine the Black Bird actor finding himself called in front of the green screen to don the infamous Adamantium claws.
