Oscars, or the Academy Awards are the most prestigious awards that are given to the stars of movies for their extraordinary performance in a movie during the year. However, due to increasing competition in the industry, every year, a lot of deserving actors and movies are not able to even make it to the nominations. That is something that has continued to disappoint fans over the years.
A few years ago at the 92nd Academy Awards, Taron Egerton was not nominated for an Oscar Award for his role in the movie, Rocketman. The news not only disappointed the fans but also left Matthew Vaughn absolutely fuming.
Matthew Vaughn opens up about Taron Egerton being snubbed from the 92nd Oscar Awards
Taron Egerton portrayed the role of Elton John in the biographical movie, Rocketman, which was based on the life and career of the legendary singer, Sir Elton John. Egerton was absolutely phenomenal in the movie but was still snubbed from the 92nd Academy Awards nominations. This came as a huge shock to both fans and critics.
Matthew Vaughn has worked with Taron Egerton in the Kingsman film series. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Horowitz inquired Vaughn about how he felt about the situation and asked, “Did you take it personally when Taron didn’t get the Oscar nom for Rocketman?” Vaughn revealed that he was absolutely pissed and said,
“Furious, actually. I am like what happened here, no offense to Austin and Ramy, they both did brilliantly. I think what Taron did was just as good let’s just say, I’ll be polite as what they did and I also think the fact that he was singing and that took it to another level and I still don’t understand what happened there. He’s never going to get a role as good as that either. That’s what’s sad about it.”

The Kingsman director talks about how he helped Taron Egerton for Tetris
In the interview, Josh Horowitz went on to talk about how they saw an altogether different side of Taron Egerton in Tetris as a producer. Matthew Vaughn revealed that he had read the script for Tetris before the Covid lockdown happened and the duo talked a lot during that time. Vaughn said,
“I spoke to Taron a lot during lockdown and I went look I don’t why but for some reasons movies have been deemed so important that we’re allowed to make films during lockdown. I went like, ‘Let’s go off and make a movie.’ I didn’t want to direct it [Tetris] but I said, ‘Taron, I’ll be there, I’ll look after you and I think it could be really good for you to play[Henk Rogers].’ I knew he could pull off a mustache. So yeah, I am proud of it, it’s a good film.”
Taron Egerton portrayed the role of Henk Rogers in Tetris and the movie went on to become a massive critical success when it was released in 2023 as it largely received positive reviews from fans and critics.
