Being an actor is not easy, and it can get difficult at times, even for the most seasoned professionals. Just like it has gotten tough for Dakota Johnson following the failure of her superhero movie, Madame Web. The film was so bad that even the cast of the movie has now issued statements about not wanting to get involved with future sequels.
Sydney Sweeney trolled Madame Web on SNL
Madame Web deals with the origin story of a Marvel character of the same name who has clairvoyant powers and can see into the future. In the movie, Dakota Johnson portrayed the role of Cassie Webb aka Madame Webb, and was trying to save the 3 spider-woman characters from the villain of the movie, Ezekiel Sims.
Sydney Sweeney is one of the most established actresses in the industry but her start to 2024 was not a good one, to say the least. The American actress portrayed the role of Julia Cornwall, one of the girls who was being hunted by Ezekiel Sims for being a future Spider-Woman in Madame Web.
Considering the disaster of a movie that Madame Web was, it is hard to imagine that even Sony would be willing to make a sequel to the film. Sydney Sweeney decided to troll the movie in her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.
While promoting her upcoming venture, Immaculate, last week on SNL the actress decided to troll her appearance in Madame Web and said,
“You might have seen me in ‘Anyone But You’ or ‘Euphoria’ — you definitely did not see me in ‘Madame Web.’“
However, Sydney Sweeney isn’t the only star who wants people to just forget her being part of Madame Web.
Dakota Johnson reveals that she won’t be doing superhero movies anymore
Madame Web was Dakota Johnson’s debut in the genre of superhero movies but it seems like we won’t be seeing any more of the actress in this genre ever again. In a recent interview with Bustle, Dakota Johnson talked about how the failure of Madame Web has made her realize that she is not the right person for this genre. She said,
“Then the movie [Madame Web] came out and it was… [Pauses.] Like, I can’t take any of it seriously at all. I dunno…It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.
But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, ‘Wait, what?’ But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.”
Madame Web has been a massive commercial and critical failure as it has largely received negative reviews from critics and fans alike. The movie even turned out to be a massive box-office bomb as it went on to gross almost $80 million against a budget of $91 million, thus failing to break even.
Madame Web is currently screening in theatres all around the world.
