However, Jolie, who was married to Billy Bob Thornton as of 2001, was quick to dismiss the rumors by justifying that since the plot of the film was kept under wraps, people latched onto the only thing visible to them, via Looper.
Later on in a 2007 interview with DailyMail, Antonio Banderas once again addressed these rumors with a candid remark. Revealing that their on-screen romance was not as enjoyable as it might have seemed, Banderas debunked the notion of an off-screen affair, underscoring that the romantic tension was strictly professional.

After both the stars dismissed the speculations and went on with their lives and their respective partners, the rumors eventually subsided.
Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie’s Marvel Connection
Fast forward to the present day, Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie have continued to evolve in their careers. While Jolie became a part of a few of the most renowned franchises like Lara Croft and even Marvel, Banderas almost became a part of the superhero franchise as he was being sought for the role of Galactus.
Known for his versatility and charm, Antonio Banderas almost landed the significant role of the villain in the 2025 Fantastic Four reboot as a part of the Marvel franchise. According to CBR, Banderas was in the running to play Galactus, the formidable cosmic entity in the upcoming film until the role ultimately went to Ralph Ineson.
So it seems, while Angelina Jolie appeared as Thena in Marvel’s Eternals, the Desperado actor simply remained a mere reference in the MCU after Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang christened one of his ants ‘Ant-tonio Banderas’, in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Missing the opportunity to play Galactus, Banderas went on with his decorated career regardless.
