Chris Pratt and the rest of the Guardians will be rolling out soon in the third installment of their movie series. It will also mark James Gunn’s final run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he finally settles fully as the co-CEO of the DC Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one of the most anticipated MCU movies as it kicks off the fifth phase after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania rather underperformed.
Chris Pratt recently gave out a statement prior to the movie’s release. It was a heartfelt reason and motivation of why and what would make his return to the franchise after Gunn’s parting. However, the way he said it, it could very well be a hint for him to perhaps even retire from the role much like how many actors have done including Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.
Chris Pratt Might Not Come Back As Star-Lord
Peter Quill is one character in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe that fans are completely split in their opinions about. Chris Pratt has played the character ever since the first Guardians of the Galaxy and his story has since come a long way ahead.
“I don’t want to be cynical in the approach and if that’s the case, I just wouldn’t do it at all. So maybe down the road if something makes sense I would do it but it would really have to check a lot of the right boxes.”
He stated that the very idea of making his character without the involvement of James Gunn would be alien to Pratt. He confirmed that a strong chance of him returning to the franchise would be gone the moment Gunn also stops contributing to the MCU. His heart and soul the character he shares all revolve around a creation crafted by the director.
Chris Pratt Has Very High Regard For James Gunn
Chris Pratt shared just how integral his relationship with James Gunn is. The two have worked together for a decade now and while that journey comes to an end, their friendship does not. He sees the director be one of his fondest memories.
“We’ve been through a lot together, the ups and the downs, we’ve been there for each other by just being together for that many years under the circumstances of filming a movie, which is really a pressure cooker. It’s a true crucible as you’re spending 15 or 16 hours a day on set, away from your family, isolated from your loved ones, and in a way you become a family. It’s a bit like the circus. It’s been a hell of a ride.”
For Pratt, working with Gunn has been an experience of a lifetime and it is something he will always cherish. The time on set and outside of that all built up a friendship that became precious to him. As for his art, he respects the way the director works and builds a story so brilliant that fans cannot help but fawn over his movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be available to watch in theatres from 5th May 2023.
