The Texas-born actress, 41, was axed from The Mandalorian after making a number of controversial social media comments in which she compared being a conservative in Hollywood to being a Jew during the Holocaust. She was eventually fired from the show as a result of the posts, which infuriated fans and Disney executives.

The Mandalorian Fallout: Gina Carano’s Story in Her Own Words

Gina Carano is speaking out regarding her dismissal from The Mandalorian, which happened over two years ago, and the lawsuit she brought against Disney and Lucasfilm as a result. The actress, who portrayed Cara Dune in the Star Wars series, was fired in February 2021, following her social media activities that started to garner attention.

Declaring the company’s decision to cut off communication with Carano, a Lucasfilm representative referred to her social media posts as “abhorrent and unacceptable” (see Washington Post). What was the actress’ opinion of it? Speaking about the firing, Carano shared in depth about it in an emotional interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“I just laid down and cried and cried. I curled into a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn’t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement about me after working with me — the most powerful entertainment company in the world saying that about me.”

Elon Musk, the owner of X, is footing Carano’s legal bills, as she disclosed to THR. For the unversed, she has filed wrongful termination and discrimination lawsuits against Disney and Lucasfilm. Despite not having spoken to Musk directly since filing her complaint in February, Carano described his financial support as “pretty incredible” and asserted that he is “using his money to fight massive injustice battles”.

The actress proceeded to add, saying:

You become unhirable. And then it becomes OK for other people to disrespect you. And then you’re just carrying around this disrespect, and you’re shouldering all this shame, and it affects your physicality, your mentality. You’re just kind of hopeless. So to be able to fight back — it makes me feel like, ‘OK. That feels good.’ ”

Carano was especially offended by the criticism she received for using the words “boop/bop/beep” in her X bio, which she claimed were intended to be “cute, like R2-D2”.

“I thought it was cute like R2-D2.”

Rather, Carano was put through what she refers to as a “reeducation camp” by the HR departments of Lucasfilm and Disney, who did not find it remotely cute.

Gina Carano Has No Remorse For Her Actions?

After Gina Carano was fired from Disney’s hit television series, The Mandalorian, many people immediately condemned her actions due to her divisive posts. Nevertheless, she claimed that she does not have any regrets and does not retract her actions. She informed THR:

“You won’t find a perfect person in me, but you will find a person who was doing her absolute best under one of the most aggressive unnecessary cancellations in Hollywood history. This has been one of the toughest growth spurts of my life and I don’t plan on wasting what I have learned.”

The Haywire actress went on to ask, citing her lawsuit:

“Is there a number that would make you happy?”

With a sober voice, she concluded the interview, stating:

“I know this might sound odd. But I’m not thinking about that. I’m thinking about clearing my name. I’m thinking about finally being healthier and having this monkey off my back and telling my story and just getting on with my life. Finally.”

Well, while her actions may have cost her a role in a popular television series, she remains undeterred in her pursuit of success.

The Mandalorian is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
