After sacrificing himself in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Henry Cavill’s Superman broke a lot of hearts. Not only were real hearts broken in the real world, but fictional characters close to Clark Kent must have had a pretty rough time trying to cope with his passing, especially Lois Lane. Well, it looks like Zack Snyder had a not-so-perfect idea about how Lois got over Clark.

What’s the idea you might ask? Let’s just say that there’s a reason why the storyline was scrapped! According to Zack Snyder himself, the original script of Justice League had made Bruce Wayne aka Batman somewhat of a rebound for Lois. Yikes! That would not have been a pleasant sight for Superman when he rose from the dead!

While appearing on Russo BrothersPizza Film School podcast, Zack Snyder let the world in on a secret. He explained that while everyone was against the idea of pairing Lois Lane with Ben Affleck’s Batman, he thought it would make a good plot. We can see why everyone had a problem with this relationship as the world was still mourning Superman’s death and there’s no way Amy Adams’ Lois would agree to that!

“I think in the original script, Lois and Batman got together briefly. There was this whole other thing, and everyone was like, ‘Oh, my God, you can’t do that.’ Because Superman was dead and Lois is a pretty amazing person.”

Well, at least the Russo Brothers would have loved to watch Lois and Batman’s relationship play out as they loved the idea and wished Snyder got to go through with it. The trio talked about how this storyline could have brought Lois into the picture in a more “complex” way.  Would you have liked to see Lois and Batman together?

If the team did accept the idea, it sure would have been awkward and not to mention, heartbreaking when Henry Cavill’s Superman would have returned in the film. Seeing Lois with someone else, let alone Bruce Wayne surely would have felt like a dagger in his heart. Well, that’s kind of what Snyder was going for as he was hoping to make a war-like story where a soldier returns to his love only to see her with someone else.

“And then I loved the idea of setting up this concept, like in the movie where the husband goes off to war and he’s dead and the wife moves on and then the husband appears, like, ‘I’m not dead, I’m fine,’ how do you deal with that? I was super into that concept, that, ‘Oh, no, Superman can be brought back to life.'”

The Man of Steel director also stated that upon Clark Kent’s return, Lois would realize that she was still in love with him. As for Bruce Wayne, though, he would have completely fallen in love with her by then.

“So now what happens with this? And it was that Lois was like, ‘I’m still in love with Superman, you were a thing,’ but then, at that point, Batman had already fallen in love with Lois.”

We don’t know if this storyline would have been received in a positive way by the fans. After all, Clark and Lois’ romance is one of the most favorite ones out there!

Both Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League are available to stream on HBO Max.
