Before Dwayne Johnson became a multi-million movie star, he was a wrestler. Going by his on-stage name of “The Rock,” Johnson fought heavily during his WWE days and was quite a popular wrestler among fans.
People might have heard the term “Let bro cook” often used nowadays. Well, this term might have been originated by Dwayne Johnson back in his WWE days but not as what you’d expect. In his autobiography, the actor discussed how he came up with the phrase and how the catchphrase became so popular.
How Dwayne Johnson Came Up With His Popular Catchphrase!
Back in 1999, Dwayne Johnson released his autobiography titled “The Rock Says…”. In this book, he talked about his various career prospects, the memorable moments in his life, and the various iconic catchphrases.
Talking about his catchphrases, Dwayne Johnson mentioned one of his most iconic catchphrases ever. “If you smell what The Rock is cooking” was invented by Johnson during his WWE days, but the wrestler-turned-actor revealed that the origin of that phrase was long back during his football days.
As per the autobiography, Dwayne Johnson had heard a similar iteration of the phrase. When he was talking to someone backstage during his WWE days, he said, “Yeah… if you smell what I’m cooking,” and he received a laugh. Later on, the wrestler started incorporating more and more of the phrase into his WWE career, and it became an iconic line to remember.

We Finally Know What The Rock Was Cooking
Hearing the catchphrase for so long, a fan had enough of the Rock’s cooking. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), a fan stated that no one ever talked about WHY the Rock was cooking. Having a great sense of humor, Dwayne Johnson replied that his wrestling persona was actually a chef!
“Actually, my wrestling persona, Rock’s backstory is that he’s an Executive Chef who specializes in moist Croquembouche (google it).”
Although Johnson left WWE after his success in movies, the wrestler returned on 1 January 2024 to WWE to challenge a famous wrestler. Although he didn’t take the name, Johnson seems to have challenged Roman Reigns for a match (via Men’s Health).
“I’m gonna go get something to eat. When The Rock goes out to get something to eat tonight, in San Diego, should The Rock sit in a booth, or should The Rock sit at the bar? Or, should The Rock sit at the head of the table?”
The Head of the Table remark might be a hint to Roman Reigns that The Rock is back for his championship belt. Although a date for the duel hasn’t been announced, fans will be eagerly waiting for the fight no matter the time or the place!
