Jon Bernthal Has One Condition to Bring Back Punisher
In a new chat with Collider, Jon Bernthal sheds light on the character Frank Castle/The Punisher, saying that it is one of those characters, that resonates with the audiences deeply and everyone can feel something of this character.
“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has in the hearts and minds of comic book fans, first responders, people in the military, and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me, and I care about that character deeply.”
He also says if he returns to the character, he’s deeply committed to the source material.
“I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right, and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that if and when we do it, we do it right.”
Bernthal appeared as Castle in two seasons of a solo The Punisher series, in addition to debuting during the second season of Daredevil, and now returning as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again.
What Led to the Cancellation of The Punisher Season 3?
The Punisher has won the hearts of millions of people from the very first episode of the first season. And then, Netflix officially announced the cancellation of Punisher season 3 following a successful season 2.
When The Punisher was canceled in 2019, showrunner Steve Lightfoot made an official announcement. He said,
“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix”. He continued “Our network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that”.
So, from this statement, it can be extracted that somehow the show would be returning someday.
At this juncture, fans can only express their hopes, speculate about the future, and revisit the initial two seasons on Netflix, eagerly awaiting the day when Frank Castle makes his return to the screen.
