John Krasinski appeared in 2016’s biographical action-thriller 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, directed and produced by Michael Bay. The movie is based on the 2014 book of the same name by Mitchell Zuckoff and follows six members of the Annex Security Team fighting to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. The incident takes place after the attacks by militants on September 11, 2012.
Upon its premiere, the movie received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics but grossed about $69 million worldwide.13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi became one of the lowest-grossing movies of Michael Bay at the time. However, the performances of the actors, action sequences, and the dark tone of the movie were appreciated, and the script by Chuck Hogan was criticized especially for its historical liberties. John Krasinski gave insights into his intense training for 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
Actor John Krasinski who played Jack Silva, CIA contractor and former US Navy SEAL in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and shared about his intense training period. He shared with Jimmy Kimmel;
“Eating salads and chicken and water and working out all the time. We did two-day workouts with my trainer Jason Walsh who is a really great guy. “
Krasinski added that he worked out five or six days a week with mentioning;
“I was like let’s do it, let’s get the bench press going and he’s like no you’re gonna drag that sled from here to there and I was like how hard is that. I’m having a heart attack, it was so awful.”
During his cover shoot for Men’s Health magazine, John Krasinski shared,
“I gotta be honest; It was brutal at times. We did tons of metabolic work, dragging sleds and all this stuff I’ve seen NFL players do. I did it for the role and then I definitely got addicted to it.”
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi had Krasinski in his first leading action role and according to Cinemabravo, being in an action movie is something that the actor had always wanted to do. The actors including James Badge Dale, Pablo Schreiber, Max Martini, and Krasinski went through rigorous gun training with Navy SEALs and learned how to fire a whole variety of different weapons.

During his interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, the actor who is popular for playing Jim Halpert from The Office shared that playing Jack Silva on 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi was the most extreme metamorphosis of his body that he has ever seen. He added,
“It was important not just mentally but to physically get into that shape because let’s be honest, you want to look like a guy that could save someone and not a guy that makes you question whether you’ll get out alive, right?”
He added that he thought he knew everything there was to know about Benghazi explaining that he watched the news, read newspapers, and tried to be a responsible citizen and the fact that he didn’t hear one thing about these six men made him embarrassed. John noted,
“I knew I had not even comprehended what happened that night and politics aside, it was important to talk about the men who put their lives on the line.”
He also shared about Michael Bay mentioning that he is one of the most impressive people he’s ever worked with.
