The heroes who made an appearance in the show were hilariously Robert Kirkman-esque.

Invincible Season 2 ended its month-long remaining run of episodes, closing out on its big finale with Mark Grayson facing off against Angstrom Levy, who sends the young hero across the multiverse. Given that this was hotly anticipated by fans, the show had a very tough nut to crack with the cameo of a beloved superhero: Spider-Man.

However, it must be noted that the rights to the Team-Up comics sit with Marvel Comics, and the license to use these characters for streaming, is with Sony. This would have caused Amazon to put in a tremendous amount of money for the finale, for a relatively short cameo. However, Invincible was able to come up with a great substitute that brought not one, but two separate Marvel characters into the show (in a manner of speaking)

Josh Keaton, who voiced the Spectacular Spider-Man in the animated series, was announced to be a part of the cast for a long time, which got fans anticipating that he would actually voice Spider-Man himself in the show. However, when Angstrom Levy actually ends up sending Mark to another dimension, audiences and Mark alike come face to face with Agent Spider, Keaton’s character, and stand in for Spider-Man.

Agent Spider lets out a lot of juicy details to Mark, such as his having to deal with his own set of Multiversal problems, which seem to be increasing (a nod to the fact that Spider-verse stories have sort of become the most popular narratives for the character).

The character is directed expy of Spider-Man, who is aptly depicted in a style that is common in Robert Kirkman‘s work with superheroes. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that an Agent Spider special could depict Mark’s adventure with the character, in a similar manner to the Team Up comics under Marvel.

Who were Agent Spider and Invincible fighting in Season 2 Episode 8?

In the original Team Up comics Invincible meets the Avengers while assisting Spider-Man to fight Doctor Octopus. The comic follows Spider-Man coaching Invincible out of his PG-17 crime-fighting habits, such that he doesn’t beat the snot out of Doctor Octopus. However, given that the characters are switched, where we have Agent Spider instead of Spider-Man, who took up Doctor Octopus’ place?

Proff Ock is a hilarious facsimile of Doctor Octopus, with his big bulbous head that has 4 tendrils attached to it. The character’s costume is hilarious as well, complete with a distinct cape instead of a trench coat. Porf Ock received some sympathy from Invincible, who took the time to figure out who was the one on the right side in the conflict. He gave Proff Ock some concessions for his age (despite the fact that he fights Doc Seismic on the regular)
