Invincible Season 2 Just Proved Disgusting Ant-Man Killing Thanos Theory Wrong in Stark Contrast to a Nightmarish Scene from The Boys

The show has played with multiple superhero tropes, and now it seems to be deconstructing popular jokes on superheroes too

Invincible Season 2 Just Proved Disgusting Ant-Man Killing Thanos Theory Wrong in Stark Contrast to a Nightmarish Scene from The Boys

SUMMARY

  • A slew of fans circulated a meme where they expected Ant-Man to enter Thanos somehow, and then explode him from the inside.
  • Invincible Season 2 tried to pull this off with it's Ant-Man expy, Shrinking Rae, and the Lizard League's heavy hitter Komodo Dragon.
  • The results were devastating, crippling Shrinking Rae and putting the meme to rest.

There are tons of exported characters in the world of Invincible, given how the show pokes fun at the conventions of the superhero genre. While having a faux Justice League (that gets axed in the first episode of the show), other superhero archetypes have also found their way into the show, such as Shrinking Rae.

Given how similar the character is to The Atom and Ant-Man, and given the nature of the show, Shrinking Rae was bound to take a creative approach with her powers, and also employ a particular meme that has been making the rounds on the internet. However, the show proved it wrong too, in one of the most devastating and brutal scenes of the show, something right of The Boys.

Invincible proves Ant-Man could not have exploded Thanos from the inside

A popular internet meme, in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, began circulating online about Paul Rudd‘s  Ant-Man, and how he could have used his powers to end Thanos from the inside. However, given that this is the main maneuver that Shrinking Rae uses in dispatching her enemies, fans couldn’t help but celebrate how competent the character was, proving time and time how Ant-Man could have executed Thanos until they saw the death of Shrinking Rae.

While fighting the Lizard League, Dupli-Kate was killed by Komodo Dragon, one of the strongest hitters of the team. While the rest of the Guardians were away fighting the impending sequid invasion,  Shrinking Rae tried to take the behemoth down, by expanding herself once inside Komodo Dragon, but would find herself completely unable to explode him, thanks to the Komodo’s super strength.

What follows is one of the most brutal; ‘death’ scenes in the show, leaving Rex Splode alone to deal with the Iguana, a wounded Komodo Dragon, and the Lizard King.

Shrinking Rae survived her ordeal, unlike in the comics

In the comics, Shrinking Rae (who is a dude) does not survive being eaten by Komodo Dragon. However, the show has amended that, allowing the character to survive, albeit in intensive care. The character has not had a speaking role since her ordeal and has remained unconscious, with no date on whether she will heal or not.

However, the character surviving is not the only divergence from the comics, as a lot has been changed and expanded upon since the airing of the show, namely, Damien Darkblood, who does not have an expanded role in the comics. It is possible that the show is setting up a slew of plotlines that the comics have not explored, as the show essentially serves as another draft of the story, allowing the creators to cut the fat and flesh out parts of the story fans find enjoyable
